new install of xp

Hi,

windows xp has been playing up lately so i was thinking of upgrading my hard drive which means a new install but is it ok for me to use a xp install disc which is newer but still use my old product id number that came with an older xp disc

Yes,

Provided the new disk is the same 'version' as your licence key.

I.E. If the licence is for XP Home SP1 and the cd is XP Home SP1 it will work. However, if the licence is for XP Home SP1 and the cd is XP Home SP1 OEM, XP Home SP2 etc. etc. (anything different from XP Home SP1) then it won't work.

the old one dose not have sp2 the new one dose and they are both version 2002 OEM discs so they wont work then is that correct.
