New Intel B3 Chipset! Now Being Shipped!

It would seem that all the UK serial numbers are similar, and the fourth character should definately be a 'zero'.

Edit: A quote from the latest statement from Asus says "All customers who already own any ASUS product affected by the design error identified by Intel® can have it replaced free of charge between 2011/03/01 and 2011/06/30."

My board is fubar as expected, anyway. Am i contacting ASUS to do the RMA or my etailer.??

TBH i want to ditch the board and get an MSI one.. so If a courier collects it and i get the full refund ill be more than happy.

I can buy the new mobo "tomorrow" and rma the asus "soon"

No retailer will be issuing refunds - they have no reason to. Legally the only have to give you the easiest (for them) of a replacement or refund and here a replacement is being offered by the manufacturers so it's obvious what all the retailers will be doing/saying.

Know your legal rights.

If something is faulty within 6 months you have the right to ask for a refund.

If they try and convince you otherwise then they are committing a criminal offence, sadly something is so common amongst suppliers that they have convinced many people that their T&Cs are law.

indeed it is, Asus UK are being really rather quiet on the whole subject of RMA/swap outs, which doesn't bode well for those of us with Asus boards.

I'm junking my Asus board anyway. When the time comes I'll opt for a full refund and buy a different make.

That's not true. I have already obtained a refund for a P8P67 Pro purchased from another retailer.

I can appreciate this is going to be one hell of a Pain in the arse for retailers.

Wasted time, shipping costs that will need to be reclaimed, refunds. I bet a lot of them will try there hardest to wriggle out of stuff. I know i would if it was my company.

As someone with 2 law degrees who practices contract law each day I think I know my legal rights. What educates you on yours?

If something is faulty within six months then there is an inference that the goods were faulty at the point of sale. This inference can be disputed. Now assume it's not disputed because in this case that would be a ridiculously uphill struggle. In that case there are three remedies open: replacement, repair or refund. It is at the retailers preference which option they choose. That is why, in this instance, you have zero right to demand a refund.

The point is they're not legally obliged to and, given that they'll probably lose money in doing so (as they won't be able to claim it from intel as they will have failed to mitigate their losses) any company doing that is mental. That one has chosen to is suprisibg, but should not be relied upon.

Maybe not, but it certainly inspires a bit of faith in those companies that are prepared to do this, and encourages customer loyalty!
