New ISP slow speeds on Ubiquiti network

Hi, i have a Unifi dream machine and several Unifi APs connected to this, I have been with Sky , a 74MB connection. Today I got virgin media 1 gig fibre installed.

put the virgin media super hub4 into modem mode and connected it to the UDM. Internet works but I’m getting the same speeds as before with the Sky connection on my UDM network. If I put the virgin media superhub4 back into router mode and connect to its network the speed test changes dramatically I.e more than 10 times than on my UDM network.

I’ve changed the ISP capabilities settings on the Unifi controller menu but still no change in speed. Any suggestions?

If you check in the UniFi controller, what status is the WAN port of the UDM showing as? It is coloured orange or green? I'm wondering if for some reason it's linking at 100Mbps instead of 1Gbps. Check the other ports while you're there.

As a test, leave the SH4 in router mode and connect the WAN port of the UDM to a LAN port on the SH4. You should have internet access through the UDM (albiet with double NAT which is best avoided, but this is only a test). What speeds do you get?

How are you determining the speed to have unchanged? Are you doing something on a wireless client or a client that's connected to a switch port on the UDM? Use a wired client. I find the Speedtest Windows 10 app is generally fairly reliable, I nomally use the Custodian Data Centre test server.

ISP capabilities in the controller won't make any difference to the throughput, it's only used when generating statistics and the like. So if you left it at 74Mbps and pulled 10% of your 1Gbps then the controller would display 100% usage even though you've got bags of headroom.

I thought it set QoS and a few other fine-tuning options based on the input line speed. I wouldn’t put it past the system to have ‘optimised’ something and wrecked the ability to use more than 74Mbps.

Nope, it's really used for nothing other than a baseline to generate utilisation statistics from. If you change the setting then it doesn't even trigger the USG to provision.

As a test though, if I set my line speed to 10/10 and force the USG to provision:

With my line speed settings as I normally have then:

I'd assume its Smart Queues causing the issues then, if you are not seeing a increase

Settings > Networks > Then Edit on your WAN network.

It could also be IDS/IPS. Settings -> Theat Management in the classic settings or Settings -> Security -> Internet Threat Management in the crap, sorry, new settings.

If that's enabled it'll limit a USG-3P to about 85Mbps.

Yeah different model to OP.

IPS/IDS on UDM is 850Mbps so you will need to switch that off to get full speeds. Also switch off smart queues as this isnt needed if above 300Mbps

If you open UniFi Portal and do a speed test what does it register?
