start a new job this morning, problem is this involves the use of public transport for my trip to and from work (taking the car isn't feasible due to local parking and stupid tailbacks in the morning.

i'm bloody shocked that my return train journey comes in at under 3 quid a day wtf i thought trains were supposedly bloody dear??? it costs me more than that a day in petrol (and 5 times that in parking)

wish me luck for i shall be taking the plunge in about 20 minutes and using the dreaded public transport system :)

if i survive i'll post up how i get on tonight :)

A £3 train commute sounds perfect - give you time to read the paper or a book. Much cheaper and easier than fighting through morning traffic and for a parking spot.

I must agree with big white dog, a simple journey on public transport is good.

I used to have to get a bus, then a train, then a tube to work, took nearly an hour and a half... Total nightmare.

Now I've moved, so my commute to work is a short walk and a single bus journey, takes just over half an hour... Soooooo nice.

Not experienced buses breaking down or getting lost yet, hopefully I won't have to ;)

What the low price hides is the fact that you have to travel with the great unwashed. You wait until a 20 stone ginger retard who smells of wee sits next to you and wants to be your new best friend. :p

I haven't travelled with the peasants for years :D :D
I had to do it last Friday, wasn't a pleasant experience. Whilsts taking a bike can still be pain when it comes to really bad weather it's still miles easier and quicker than dealng with public transport.

Trains are ace. If you get lost to jump on the next one to Birmingham New Street, can pretty much get to anywhere from there.

That's always been my backup plan anyway. Thankfully though most stations have those awesome displays so its not hard to figure out where you're going.

:)

You see this what annoys me intensely with this country, i live in the london suburbs and commute in every day to the city.

Next month the prices of rail travel into london will increase by 15%, up to about £7 a day, all because the new rail company who won the franchise, has promised that the extra 15% will go to pay for rail systems in the north.

Damn labour government and gordon brown fleecing londoners to give to the north. Please dont start saying that we earn more, because we're taxed more and pay for to live, in the end it works out much more expensive to live in london even with extra wages.

Would be nice if my money went to imrpove the route that i use, since its only thanks to london that this government have met their public transport targets. Everywhere else rail and bus travel is down, london it went up 4% last year, which allows us to meet targets of about 2.5% increase.

London Weighting = Tax the enitre county pays to keep londoners less grumpy.

At least London has a viable public transport system.

My 9 mile travel to work, would invole a 20 min walk to a bus stop, 15 mins into town. Another 20 min journey out of town, topped of with another 10 min walk.

Would take over an hour and a half, no bus runs before 7.30 am, and then the first bus is 1 an hour.

Bearing in mind London pays for the rest of the country i think its more than justified, i could buy a house up north with the rent i pay on a 1 bedroom flat. London weighting doesn't even pay for the differences in living, never has.

Its hardly a tax, you don't pay for it, the companies do if they want to locate in London. Something like 40% of the wealth that london generates goes up north, in the mean time the tube is falling apart and the train system is going the same way. I don't mind my income tax etc being used for developments elsewhere in the country, but i dont see why the government should be allowed to grant private train licenses solely on the basis of making us pay for a service we'll never see.
