New Job Searching Problems.

Keeping in mind that people with good degrees from good universities are having difficulty finding work you need to be realistic. What interests you? What are you good at? Let's just say you want to do web development. You need to get bloody good at it and build up a respectable portfolio of work if you want to even remotely compete with university graduates.

Treat the youtube thing as a hooby. Saying you want to be big on youtube is like a kid saying he wants to be a footballer when he grows up. It's not a viable career path for the vast majority of people.

I understand this totally, basically I need to find a alright payed job for the moment, but it's hard to find it and actually get replies as so many people are unemployed at the moment, youtube is also a hobby of mine, just something like I said I would love to go into full time, just a great deal down the line.

Thumbed everything down just cos I could! (nah just kidding i'm a nice guy :))

In all seriousness unless your one of those people who make videos about videos and edit them in an A.D.D PLZ DONT GOTO ANOTHER VIDEO style then YouTube ain't giving you squat.

Also, you can't sit there with GCSE's and go 'I want web job'. There are people getting 1st class degrees who's be lucky to enter into one of those type jobs.

Agreed you could get a job selling SEO however this is in the last year or so become the new Double Glazing salesman job...

Yes work online, something in that category, as at the moment my aim is to get big on youtube, but that will take of course a lot of time and I need a income at the moment.

I would forget about becoming a youtube superstar, just do it as a hobby and if you get a tenner a month, cool beans!

What do you want to do online? It is a very competitive industry! Can you draw, animate, program, make templates for a CMS or markup and style a website?

What is it you can offer to an employer or what makes you competitive compared to everyone else who is already making money in the industry?

Dress up as a fish and give youtube lectures on the over-fishing of the oceans... it's an instant winner.

Oh and I want 17.5% of all future income arising from this idea.

Or you could be a smart 18 year old and get yourself off to Uni and/or start a business. But judging by your conquer the world attitude (which is admirable) I'd imagine you currently lack the business expertise.

I am always happy to look at CV's and covering letters as it use to be my job as a private contractor for employment agencies and the JCP. You need to tailor your CV and covering letter individually for each job, not just do your CV and say it is sorted.

My own business would be nice, but its just the right type of thing, also, I do alter my CV to suit the job.. So it does help.

Agreed. People make a common mistake of making a general CV and sending it off. Unfortunately you must adapt them for each role.

Personally with the new account to the forums, I think this is just a troll thread.

You want a web based job? Your youtube isnt anything even mildly interesting enough for the mass market. You need to rethink your plan if you are serious.

If you like video, you could start your own video production company producing videos for local businesses to add to their websites. Video should be a growth area of the web. Technically it could be quite challenging, but could be quite fun and rewarding. Here's an example company that does it:

If you're interested in web-based, learning web design never hurts:

then you can get into web marketing where there are quite a few opportunities.
