I need help in finding a new laptop.

It will mainly be used to play World of Warcraft, i am not interested in the very best graphics are top specs....i just want one that will play WoW.

I first had an Acer 3000 series laptop for about 14 months and it was ok...not great just ok, then i had a toshiba which again was ok (this broke)

I have recently purchased a Dell 6400 with 1Gb Ram and an 256Mb x1400 graphics card and i had real problems trying to get this to play wow at all...i was getting graphic glitches all the time and it was laggy/stuttering.

I have just returned this laptop to Dell after we failed to resolve the problem (Dell said the hardware was fine, WoW tech support said the game was fine etc etc)

So i am now looking for another laptop, preferably staying away from the ATI X1400 graphics card as i have recently read how bad this is.

Any links or advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I have about £650.00 to spend....i know this amount will not get me a great gaming laptop but i played wow ok an the other 2 laptop's mentioned and they had integrated graphics.

That laptop would have played WoW perfectly I know this because my friend has the same spec machine.

If you buy a PC/Laptop from Dell first thing you should do is format it to get rid of all the rubbish then, do a clean Windows XP install, and latest graphic drivers etc.

WoW works on macs too. It even installs from the same discs as the PC installer.

However mac laptop wise, you'd best be advised to get a macbook pro at least, the integrated graphics of macbooks are much slower. So slow as to not make it worthwhile IMO...

Hi and thanks for the replies.

The first thing we did when we got the laptop from dell was to wipe it clean, then we reinstalled and updated it.

the reason i bought that laptop was that i thought it should run fine....it just didnt....i had artifacts and glitches everywhere and the game was unplayable.

Dell were very helpful but we couldnt resolve the problem....so it is now being sent back.

Can anyone please tell me a machine that should play wow ok and falls within the budget.

Also i am not bothered about turning the graphic settings down....i have a pretty good desktop PC with dual core processor, 2Gb Ram and a 256Mb PCI-e graphics card.....if i wanted to play wow flat out i would do it on there.

This laptop is for when i am away, at friends houses etc etc.

WOW actually runs pretty good in bootcamp on the Macbook compared to the Mac version. Constant 50-60fps, with intense areas will go to 30-40 and only time you notice a slow down is in the major towns with 100's of people.

But you'd be best getting something with a better graphics card so you have option to play other games.

Got a HP laptop here, 1.8 centrino duo, 512 ram, and onboard intel graphics and on low-med settings and it plays fine, no lag or graphic stuttering at all....

You would have to spend 750+ at the least for a laptop that can run WoW acceptably at medium settings.

Not necessarily, I bought an Acer laptop about a year ago for £550 (sempron 3000, 1gb ram, 128mb Radeon X700), runs WOW pretty nicely. Its not a REALLY demanding game, a mid spec laptop should suffice.

I got a laptop about 18 months ago which is fine for WoW - I use it instead of my pc for instances, as my pc is really unstable. Ones with similar specs can be had for around £500 now. The most important things to look for are a separate graphics card (as integrated graphics suck and eat up your RAM), and at least 1Gb RAM.
