well i finally took the plunge :rolleyes:

and bought the 70-200 VR with a TC17 for my d300.

its on back order but hopefully will be here in time for the Renault World series and the week after that is Le Mans

just need to advertise the 70-300 VR to help pay for it!

I was looking that the same lens mainly because I want a zoom but not to expensive, but why are you selling a 70-300 vr?

The 70-300mm VR is f4-f5.6, costs about £300 and is a decent midrange zoom.

The 70-200mm VR is f2.8 throughout, costs over £1000 and is serious pro glass and is as sharp as a prime.

Different league.

Really want this lens but I just can't justify the price...

Plus I hear it is not actually perfect and there may be an updated version coming soon. Vignetting and softness wide open on the D3 along with a not so perfect VR (original first version). Along with ghosting problems...

Is the extra cost for the VR really worth it?

The 70-200 VR is a fantastic lens. Well worth the cash, even more so if you bought it in Hong Kong

if you can get this for £300 you are doing well every where i looked is around the £350 mark.

the 70-300 is a very good lens, light weight and pin sharpe, but the f2.8 of the 70-200 puts it into the next league, it is one of the top lens out there.

with a 10% discount voucher it worked out almost the same price from J's as from HK on the bay.
