I am toying with getting a lens to cover longer focal lengths (I already have the std kit 18-55mm lens which came with my 300D)

I have been offered a second hand Tamron 28-200 and a Canon 55-200 MkII USM for about the same price (£90).

The Tamron obviously offers a wider range but there is a fair bit of overlap between this and the 18-55.

The Canon carrys straight on from the 55mm end and offers USM as well so should focus faster (??) but I'm not sure if the lack of overlap isn't a problem.

Any views??

it's not all about the focal length, what F Stops to the lenses have?

Rich

The Tamron is 3.8 - 5.6

The Canon is 4 - 5.6

So nothing in it really when you take into account the Tamron is a wider range lens.
