New MG's roll off the production line . . . .

Oooh, so what happened, were they told to leave all parts, vehicles etc in the building and just walk out?

Why have the finished rovers still there not been sold off?

Just seen a few sites in relation to the cars at long bridge.

Security has been stepped up now, as of the last couple of weeks but everything remains in place.

It looks quite eeery, as if there was a fire alarm and people have had to evactuate.

A super looking red TF is there with it's keys in the ignition, many of the cars are 75's with rust on the brake discs lol.

Will the new MG be more reliable now it has far eastern links?

Hardly blame them.
I beg your pardon!?

They inherited a company with about £400m worth of assets, zero debts and received a massive cash injection from BMW yet, in the space of five years, they managed to run the company into the ground, put everyone out of a job and walked away with tens of millions in their pockets.

IMO, the directors of the Phoenix group should be jailed for what they did.

If only :p They went in there to "look around" after seeing it on the 28days later forum (people who go into random unoccupied buildings and take pics/look around), they were able to walk into the factory through a hole in a fence. Once inside, they said they were able to walk around pretty freely, didn't see a single security guard the whole time they were there.

In the area with the alloy wheels, they tripped an alarm somehow and decided to leg it back to the car. One of my mates got caught on the way out by two security guards, who then asked if he had read about the place on 28Days Later lol.

They let him go in the end warning him that if they saw him there again, they would have him done for trespassing.

Looks like quite an interesting place. They've still got the stands there on the factory floor with Chinese writing on - presumably for the guys who bought the designs for the cars.

What keeping people in work for another few years instead of letting in close down. Rover was finished before they took over.

It's partially secure from what my friends told me. They were able to walk around most areas of the factory without any bother, but when they entered one of the parts areas (this one had rows upon rows of unused alloys), an alarm went off, and they saw two security guards and a van as they were running away.

There's pictures floating around of people who explore places like Longbridge, loads of cars, and loads of parts. In one area (think it was the paint shop IIRC), there were even computers still turned on.

There's also an underground bunker beneath Longbridge, might have been some sort of air raid shelter.
Got a link to those photos mate? :)

There was a bit about Longbridge in Top gear magazine a while back.

Here is the link on their website
Apparently in the paint shop the main pumps are still running continuously circulating the paint around the pipes and system etc so that it does not congeal and ruin all the equipment.

Certainly. There's a load of people over on the 28 Days Later forum who explore places like this and take pictures.

Undeground Tunnels

Inside the Factory 1

Inside the Factory 2
In the above link, the black MG is apparently some sort of concept car.

There's tons more threads of people going there and taking pictures. The whole place looks very eery, almost Chernobyl like

Those pics are bloody amazing  This "28 days later" site looks great too! :o

I know, I have seen some other ones of a ZR, bonnet up, calobration kit connected, it's as if the people have popped off for a tea break.

Shame they have stepped up security, a couple of my mates would love to have a look around longbridge, being mechanics.

Must be incredibly weird going around the place, a lot of the equipment is actually still running

My question was not really about the people that went round, it was when rover went bust. Was it a, put your tools down and crab your coat kinda thing?

Well thats what the pictures make it out to be like anyway.

By the looks of it, they just picked up whatever belonged to them, left the rest to rot. Mind you, I wouldn't blame them.

Love the picture on the site of a whiteboard with 'Terry Venables' and his phone number on. Real deal?

I worked at longbridge for years, not making cars etc, but as a contractor, we built the new plant which was going to be used for the new mini, you can see this from the m42 it’s the big silver building.
The building was never used and still isn’t today, BMW owned rover back then and changed all the cladding to silver which I took part in, so ive been just about everywhere round longbridge.
The building we built was a total waste of money, but of course BMW could afford it.

Did Rover build any new mini at all with BMW?

A protoype?

I'm just shocked that there are cars on the car park at the plant and cars inside that could quite easily have been sold off.

I thought when companies went bust, the assets were stripped?

They are old pics, most of the parts, cars, plant, steel has been sold off, the chinese had a lot of it, The new mini was never built at longbridge as far as im aware.

so was it down to designing poor cars or building cars poorly... or both

i pass the wreckageof that place everyday, quite sad really

would love to see in those tunnels tho
