Right,

Time to ditch mobo & get something better. So, just wondering if with Vista I can simply install & it will work/pick it up fine? Or is their a repair feature like XP?

Don't want to reinstall :(

Also, FYI not OEM but Retail copy :)

Will be fine.

I have to disagree. I swapped Mobo from one kt800 pro chipset to another kt800 pro chipset, before the swap, I uninstalled all drivers, mobo, gpu and sound. On boot, BSOD and reboot. Cant even boot in safe mode. Fresh install was the only way. IS the only way.

My XP installation (before I ditched it back in December for Vista) had been through two motherboard changes without reinstalling the OS.
First one went fine, second one focred me to boot into Safemode, delete some drivers and then reboot and redetect.
Certainly no degregation in performance - however I just use my PC.
If you play benchmarks you'll probably lose a few points for doing things that way.

Really  No nasty BSODs & 'degrade in performance' like with XP?
It should be fine if you get rid of the old chipset drivers and install the new. (Clean install, i.e. uninstall old, reboot and install or run a program like Driver Cleaner)

I always recommend doing a reinstall, depending on the chipset you're migrating to etc the HAL could be disrupted enough to degrade performance to a noticable level. Changing a mobo on an existing installation will not do any favours for your reliability either.

Think I might just do a reinstall because current Vista was just installed to see if it (& other software/etc) had 'matured'. So far so good, even ditched XP but was a messy job moving around partitions, boot info, etc. Chance to do-it right I guess :)

Backup anything important - just in case.
Do that every other day. Lets just say its something I learnt the hard way :(

i would say format and reinstall windows...

that way u won't find any problems..

have to agree with this

sometimes you can be 'lucky' and not have any problems, the only time i've done this and not formatted is when i upgraded from an asus k226 to a k226a motherboard :p, they looked identical, just had a newer chipset
