Hi all . I've recently upgraded my pc to 7600k . 1070 etc, at the moment I'm just getting back into playing games and using my 24 inch 1080 monitor I've owned for 5 or 6 years.currently playing my olds games bf4, metro , gta5 etc

I'm looking at a new monitor but really unsure which way to go ive got the following options if anyone could chime in with any personal experiences. is 27 inch too big for 1080 and also don't wanna pay the premium for gsync so not sure whats best stay 1080 and go 144hz or 1440p at 60hz or 144hz.

If you can afford it go 1440 and 144Hz, it would be a nice upgrade from your current monitor. I upgraded to a 1440, 144Hz monitor in November and it has been a great upgrade and worth the money for me.

Personally I would look around and buy a ASUS MG279Q and go IPS, a well known place is selling them for £499 but Temporarily out of stock. But will deliver when back in stock. Also a few other place are selling it for £515 and instock.

Thanks woody , just found that monitor in stock near me for £488 but is there much difference between that and the Predator XF270HU as the specs seem like for like unless I'm missing something.

I think they use the same panel, which would not surprise me at all. But the MG279Q comes with a 3 year Warranty, the preditor only comes with a 2 year Warranty.

It maybe worth reading the review below, it also mentions the Predator XF270HU.

Also just to warn you IPS monitors can suffer from back light bleed, I have had 2 IPS monitors. One from Dell and my current Asus one, but the difference in viewing angles and colour in the images more than makes up for it over a TN panel for me.

Here's some unpopular opinions: 1440p is overrated. 144hz is overrated. IPS/VA aren't. Gsync isn't worth the price premium. That being said, it's all up to you & what you determine your experience to be. For the games you play I see two (much better imo) choices available (not least because a 1070 will be enough-ish for 1440p 60hz and not 1440p 144hz): Either Ultrawide 34'', or a Samsung 4K 40'' TV (KU6400) - which can also do ultrawide as well. The reason is that 21:9 will make more of an impact in those games than either 1440p or 144hz (even combined) will, while the 4K TV can be one hell of an experience but can also do ultra-wide through custom resolutions (and it looks so nice as well). Of course, if you wanted to stay <30'', then yeah, not as many choices.

They are the same panel. General consensus seems to be that the Asus is overall better but both are likely to have backlight bleed issues (I know mine does) and neither company has good support. If you buy either one, make sure you're buying it from a retailer whose support you trust.

By the way, the MG279Q has been as low as £430 in the last two months, and the XF270HU was £400 for weeks.

I paid £430 for mine on black Friday and it is definitely worth getting it from a good retailer.

Thanks again for the response, was still unsure which way to go so I decided to get a 144hz 24inch to tide me over for the time being , picked up a Acer GN246H for £200 which is a vast improvement over my old monitor .

I'll use this in the meantime and when I finally decide which way to go i'll use this monitor on the other pc. Thanks again
