Hi everyone first post here from a beginner!!
I recently bought a Thermaltake VJ40001N2Z V9 case with the intention of moving everything from my old Dell Dimesion E520 in to it and then upgrading everything gradually when I had the money. Half-way through moving I realised that the motherboard in my Dell was BTX whilst my case supports only ATX. So, I need a fairly basic motherboard more as a temporary replacement than an upgrade. Problem is as I'm a beginner I need help in picking a suitable motherboard!!
It must have/be at least minimum:-
room for 4GB RAM
ATX (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) (also case supports micro ATX)
1 x PCI (e?) slot (whatever it is needed for graphics card)
4 x SATA (or as many as possible)
3 x USB
The part I don't understand is which processors you can put on which motherboards and why. If somebody could explain it to me it would be great. My current processor is a Viiv Pentium D 915 Processor Dual Core (2.8GHZ, 800MHZ FSB, 2x2 MB cache. Obviously the motherboard must be able to accomodate this.
I don't want to spend too much and hopefully wont need to as I only need something basic. Up to around £60.
Any help and guidance would be very much appreciated so I don't make another mistake!! Let me know if you need any more information.
Thanks in advance
Daniel
