Hi all

New to mountain biking and have been researching a lot over the past few months.

I live in Shropshire and my local trails are Cannock Chase and more downhill like the coed-y-brenin, Welsh bike parks etc

I’m 6ft2 and have a budget of around £750 initially.

So I’m looking at hardtails. Some of my mates run full suspension, other hardtails which I understand is better for beginners.

Two bikes I’ve narrowed down to are:
https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs...goryId=165499&productId=1378487&storeId=10001

And

https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bi...uei4UHxd8jj7djDVA3bXXMBcqSxPQ4DhoCN9IQAvD_BwE

Both bikes need a dropped post upgrade.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for me please?

Halfords bikes:
usually Voodoo is better frame/ride than Carrerra
spec wise, they're both pretty similar

I would guess the Voodoo will have a quicker top-end, with slightly bigger wheels and 32T chainring. The Carrerra has smaller wheels and a 30tooth chainring - so possibly easier to climb

If I had to, I'd probably go for the Voodoo, as it's v well reviewed.

Other options (which are arguablly better)
Cube Acid Eagle with 12 speed groupset

The Vitus range from Chain Reaction Cycles are worth a look at this price too...

Or for a smidge more you can get a sorted full-sus:

v well regarded bike...
There were some 15% off codes that seemed to work last week (thanku15 or summer15), but I can't get them to work tonight. Might be worth a look around if you can find a GoOutdoor discount code.

I didn’t notice the Bossnut! Interesting to see you can get a full sus for under 1k. I may just pull the trigger on this!!

Cheers for the input dude!

Hey guys just thought I’d give an update!

Purchased the Caliber Bossnut mk3!
Hit the trails couple times now and it’s a great bike, highly recommended. Picked it up from the Shrewsbury Go Outdoors. Their MTB dept is pretty good; ask for Joel he knows his stuff!
