Hey, it's been a while since I've built a pc, but I'm looking for a tower WITHOUT a graphics card (have a 260 atm think that will do for the time being)

SO I need:
Case
PSU
CPU
MOBO
RAM
SSD drive (preferably 120gb, but 60-80 should do too), I have a spinpoint 1TB drive seperately that I'll keep
CPU cooler

I also have my own sound card, keyboard, mouse and headphones.

I'm not exactly swimming in money at the moment, so I'd like to keep the budget around 500-600, however if it means stretchin to 700-800 (i know the ssd might bring the price up but seems to be worth it) I can cope as well.

The computer will mostly be used (on top of basic office apps and internet) for poker (which means somewhat heavy database operations) and the most demanding game I play at the moment is starcraft 2.

Thanks in advance

right where to start.

AM3, i5 and i7 are all going to be obsolete.

with AMD chipset motherboards, sli isn't possible, but crossfire is.

with Intel, you can have either option.

The new AMD bulldozer motherboards(AM3+) will accept a AM3 cpu and current DDR3 memory, so there is some forward compatibility there.

theres no compatibility with any off the new Intel stuff that will be released.

with Intel, the cpus are usually faster.

ah, heh, I have an i7 laptop, and it seems really sweet, so I'd rather have that :) will fiddle around and come up with a spec myself as well in a sec

AM3, i5 and i7 are all going to be obsolete.

extremly harsh stulid :(
far too strong a word to describe it.

i would like to say "not the latest" version.

the day sandy bridge and bulldozer come out ppl are not
going to get out of bed pop their side panel off
remove ther am3,i5 or i7 and throw it in the trash.

Obsolete would be best to describe an Analogue set top box.
Not an am3,i5 and certainly not i7

you made me feel a bit sad stulid :(

im all happy again:)

Edit:

wen you think about it, things r only truly "new" wen they have been announced
and in the pre-release build up stage. the day they hit the shelf,
maybe changes it from "new" status to "current"
and its destined to be replaced from then on in.
thats wot i think :)

Jakesnake you are having a philosophical evening lol.

I think you need to look at the length of time you will be keeping the core components. An i5 or i7 would keep most people happy for quite some time. You can't really tell whats around the corner with technology but at the end of the day you just have to bite the bullet at some point :)
