I have two questions about all the new graphics cards that have come out.

Firstly, was there an increase in performance on the 8800GTX between now and when it was released, through driver updates and stuff?

Also if i am playing on a 19" monitor (1280x1024) Which will give me best performance? A 8800GTX, 9800GTX, 9600GT SLi, 8800GTS SLi

Which will give best performance on a 22" monitor and 24" monitor?

If you are going to be gaming at 1280x1024 for the forseeable future I would just get an 8800GT.

If you're going to be getting a 24" monitor then my choice would be the 8800GTX, they're such a good deal at the moment (I bought one this weekend).

Would an 8800GTS max out Crysis for example with everything on highest? Or would i need to SLi it? Also would a 9600 SLi not be better?

It's gonna be quad core Q6600, 4GB 800mhz RAM. I just dont know what graphics card to get. I want something thats gonna run every game on pretty much the highest settings for the next 2 to 3 years. Thats why i am hesitant to get an 8 series instead of a 9 series.

Any suggestions?

Also do graphics cards increase in performance with new driver releases and such?

If you want something now that will max out every game for the next 2-3 yrs you need a 360 or a PS3 ;)

For now Id get cheapest 8800GT you can find, then in June/July see what the new cards are like, if they provide a significant hike in performance especially in Crysis then maybe get one of those

What he said, except I got myself a GTS and I'm planning on auctioning it off in a few months when the next gen cards are released (if they're any good that is)

Hmm, bought myself an 8800GTX even I only play at 1440x900, it's just that it was as cheap as chips, I coulnd't pass :D Might upgrade to a 24 later but for now, 19 inch is fine. 8800GTX all the way.

What IS better? 8800 GTS 512 SLI or 9600 GT SLI? I've seen varying reports on the two at different resolutions. I'd guess the 8800 GTS SLI is actually better at pretty much every res?
