New PS3 firmware 3.56

Never is a strong word!

Not when you consider the technology at play. The bandwidth required for the emotion engine was incredible so trying to emulate that is even harder.

What we MIGHT possibly see is an attachment that connects to the PS3 that either has the PS2 tech in it or something. There was a patent application for that some time ago.

Realistically though they have realised that people will pay for remastered PS2 games. And when you look at the results of the remastering its easy to understand why as the quality is a step up from emulated games. There are plenty of rumours floating around for an MGS trilogy HD set and it's smart business as they know loads of people will pay for it.

At the end of the day you can still find PS3 compatible fats on auction sites if you honestly want to play PS2 games so bad.

Hmm a bit confused, ive had already done the update when it came out and yet my automatic download did it again today, surely it shouldnt have done that

There was a bug in 3.56 that caused problems with upgrading the HDD, Sony have released a 'hotfix' to cure the problem, hence the new update :)

How big are these updates? I dont use my PS3 much but everytime i want a go on GT i seem to have to spend 2 hours updating first (either the game or firmware).

Not to start a console flamefest and i know i only have a slow 2.5meg connection in the UK but the patching on a ps3 takes so much longer than the Xbox.

I dont remember where I read this, but there's 2 factors with regards to firmware\OS updates on the consoles.

1. 360 updates use compression, PS3 updates dont.
2. 360 downloads are patches, PS3 downloads are complete updated firmwares\OS

And considering I cant remember where I read this information originally, it would be nice if someone could confirm what I have said :D

Don't forget that the servers Sony use are typically slower, I rarely get a good download speed on PSN but my 360 is usually very snappy.

In before someone says it's my connection or port settings. No it is not. :o

That used to be the case, but since 3.50 (IIRC) it can do patch updates in the same way as the 360.
