New Ram now slower boot times, and cpu needing more volts?

Ok guys received my G.Skill pc3200 2x1gb Zx popped them in with great aticipation set the stock clocks of 2-3-2-5 and i couldn't even get to the windows loading screen, so had to reset cmos! managed to get my comp to boot to windows with now 1.4v going through my cpu and ram timings of 2-3-3-5 (as opposed to the 1.35 i was using with my old ram - OCZ pc3200 2x512mb VX gold) but on the windows loading screen it took a age to load the bar actually stopped at some points!

for reference i'm currently running my comp as follows :

cpu - 255fsb @ 1.4v
cpu multi - 11
ram - 166 divider (i had to drop this to 166 from 180 after the ram change)
ram timings - 2-3-3-5
mobo multi - x3
ram volts - 2.8v

anyone have a clue whats happend?

255 * (5/6) gives 212.6

My OCZ 2GB Platinum (also PC3200, 2-3-2-5) will boot at 210, but not 215, i wouldnt be surprised if the GSkill was similar.

The HTT multiplier will be fine at x4.

Have you tried with only 1 stick of RAM in different slots to see if it makes a difference?

Am i correct in that you can boot with those settings at 1.4, but not 1.35?

i can't boot with ram timings of 2-3-3-5 and cpu with 1.35v but it will with 1.4v i'l try changeing htt multi to x4 and see if this makes a difference, i just find this strange! will post back in a second and let you know

ok nope the x4 multi has done nothing, note i am running the ram in single channel as the memory controller on my cpu is borked could this be the problem?

2GB RAM puts more strain on the memory controller. (ie CPU). Increasing the timings on the mem will help it.

I had to drop my CPU to 2.8Ghz to run 2GB RAM @ 2-3-2-5 on a divider. (a BAD thing to do).

I run my ZX @ 2.5-3-3-8 1T on a 150 divider, giving my normal CPU clock of 3.05Ghz, and memory @ 234Mhz.

Ever since the memory controller was moved onto the CPU die, it's never been easy to tell if it's CPU or memory problems. The good thing of course is that memory speed / timings really aren't important anymore.
