Can anyone summarise the difference between the "performance" variants of these drives?

It seems the Deskstar is a very good deal when looking at the specifications, although it does have only a 3 year warranty compared to Western Digital's 5.

From looking at our system WD, Seagate and Samsung are all very close, but Hitachi is like 0.5% higher return rate.

All in all though they all tend to sit sub 2% over time which seems about the going rate.

Bear in mind our return rates include DSR, courier damages too, so are higher than to be expected. Actual product going faulty is typically sub 1% on all hard drives.

It is, most of ocz ssds don't max sata II. Still, if they're sata III then you do know they're new i.e. haven't been siting in some warehouse for 6 months

This is a very good point however the drives do sell. Business's buying the 250gb and 320gb drives drive the sales of those lines. 500GB drives go into systems so the amount that we buy in is significantly higher. As such the price to us is less and this saving is passed on to the customers
