I've been looking at the Linksys WRT160NL or the WRT320N and can't decide between the two! I kinda like the 160 because it will support other firmware, what are the advantages of going with the 320?

I don't really need the gigabit of the 320 as I have a separate gigabit switch to use..

Any ideas between the two?

Thanks,
Andy

Do you already have their 50meg service?? if not they will supply one for free when you upgrade which is a Belkin N1 but sadly not the N1 Vision.

I am getting the 50meg service installed in 10 days time.

Just had 50meg installed before xmas, and they gave me a D-Link DIR-615 wireless router (not a gigabit router).

Worst piece of networking hardware I have ever had the misfortune to use.

I had it connected to my VM 50Mb line for less than 2 hours.

Garbage.

 What exactly was wrong with it? Not had any problems with mine. Runs well and does everything I ask of it well.

I'm not trying to do network witchcraft and magistery whit it though I suppose.

I've only had to reboot it once in a month when a pc downstairs lost wireless connection (stellar performance compared to my previous Netgear WNR2000 P.O.S).

I have discovered that the hardware version of the router is 'D2' but the only available firmware on the D-Link website is for hardware versions 'B2' and 'D1'. Odd that eh .

Dazboots, the only thing I would recommend is that you call Virgin up and complain. Demand a new router. Every day I was having problems with the wnr2000, it's only useful as a bookend.

Or go and buy a new one, which ever one this thread will recommend in the end ;).

Edited to add that if you are buying a new one, try and get a gigabit router if your [wired] connected computers have gigabit lan NICs. The ports on most cheap routers are only 100mbit between ports.

I ended up going for the WRT160NL for mine.. Roll on Saturday when I can get back on the net at home! :)

If it doesn't perform too well, I'll switch back to my IPCop box and get a separate WAP.

mines being installed on the 12th jan, is there any router i should ask the guy for being the better one?

Not sure of the other models they offer or the installer will have in his van when he calls. All I know is that the D-Link DIR-615 is has given me little problems (one wireless drop out ever in a month) and to refuse a WNR2000.

HTH

Is yours still being installed then? Mine got cancelled from Saturday due to snow and the next available date for connection is the start of February!! :(

Noes! Don't say things like that, I'm praying they make my install slot OK this week. :( Our road's not too bad and we're adjoining the motorway junction (all clear of snow etc) so hopefully we'll be OK. *crosses everything*

Not been cancelled yet and still on for tom, I'm in the wallington area Surrey so will let u know with any updated, using my iPhone ATM and it's too slow!! Hopefully 50mb will live up to the hype!

I'm hoping that most of the snow will have gone from the pavements soon and I'll phone them and see if they can slot me in a bit sooner.. Am having to make do with a mobile broadband dongle at the moment. It does the job for web browsing but I can't game or do anything else on it! :(

I know the feeling! Looking forward to getting it and being able to download braid off steam along with sone others that they had on offer!
