NEW Samsung 950 Pro M.2 NVMe (think SM951 with VNAND & Black PCB) yum!

Two things hit my mind:

Black PCB
VNAND (lower cost - hopfully)
512, NVMe

Samsung have stated an October release!

this morning and looking at performance/price:

MSRP of $199.99 for the 256GB capacity and $349.99 for the 512GB capacity.

I will probably take the plunge into M.2 NVMe with the 512GB.

So glad I didn't go for the SM951 series, we all knew the consumer versions of these drives, with 5 year+ warranties and higher performance were coming.

The black PCB tops it off - that will look so sexy installed in my Maximus VIII Hero

So I just ordered the Samsung SM951 NVMe SSD, I will cancel it now and buy one of these for a boot drive, OVERCLOCKERS GET IT ON PRE ORDER NOW, I WANT IT

Not a huge performance benefit so I am not too fussed.. Only difference is the warranty I guess.

The endurance is how much data the drive can write before failing.

These new drives have 100GB more endurance than the SM951 OEM range that preceeded it, along with a 5 year warranty, vs the 1 year of the SM951 OEM range.

Won't happen - they have to give users a reason to upgrade to Z170/X99.

Just a question, will this new SSD have reduced performance when used on a X99 Motherboard, even at PCIE 3.0 x4 as it uses DMI 2.0

My SM951 benches at roughly the speeds it should (I think?) on X99:

I can't imagine the 950 Evo would suffer much, if at all.

Just what I needed to complete my new builds.

I know of 2 people with SM951's and both have had to be sent back (mine included). So much so that It's now been stuck in my NUC and running openelec, as I am sick of rebuilding my X99 machine and don't trust it in there.

On the plus side. My NUC is super fast now....... but for how long

£124 today for the 256gb nvme Ive just bought a second 256gb one will get them in raid 0 when I buy my gigabyte z170 gaming 7

NVMe is supposed to work on MSI Z97 boards, I haven't tried it on mine yet though

hi Joe what x99 motherboard are you using, I get similar results on the asus x99 deluxe
