New Samsung S23A700D 120Hz

Buy another one first(funds permitting), swap the glasses, phone up OcUK and get them to collect the other one, gibbo said they will pick up faulty ones(although it states dead pixels) for free.

You should drop CS a note and ask them first though.

We dont offer onsite warranties I am afraid. Please don't put words into my mouth as I've never said OcUK would pick up faulty ones.

I said we'd accept ones back if they arrive with dead/stuck pixels or develop them within 14 days, but the customer needs to return to us. :)

Sadly I now have to return the cracked glasses AND the monitor, which has no dead/stuck pixels, just to get replacement glasses.

This to me is poor customer service from Samsung's point of view.

Hi i just got the 27" S27A750D a lot more exspensive and i have a cracked lense, i am also wondering weather to return as i want to use the monitor now but if i want the glasses replaced i have to send back the lot! Anyone know how long it would take to replace as they have them in stock or will they send back to Samsung 1st?
If so i will bite the bullet and buy another set of specs only problem cheapest i have seen are £54!
Regards
Guy

For the record, I did ask CS before posting here, they said I would have to return everything, which I accept. CS gave me the number for Samsung and suggest I ask them directly about it but unfortunately Samsung also say I need to return the monitor as well.

I have no issues with this if this is what is required, I just feel Samsung could have been a bit more flexible. Just seems a bit of a waste of time, effort and money to pack up a perfectly working monitor just to replace a much smaller, separate time. But if them's the rules then them's the rules.

As with the SA750 and 950 series you may find the image richer and more appealing by enabling 'GroupView' MagicAngle or switching to Gamma Mode 3. No need to touch contrast and brightness is purely down to preferences and lighting.

Thanks PCM2, I'll try that.

It's certainly a massive improvement over the 17" Samsung SyncMaster LCD TV (from the ark) that I'd been using. Sure I noticed a tiny bit of back light bleed in the bottom right hand corner when I first got it unboxed, but not so much you can see it during normal use although I can't see it at all now. Think I'm just sensitive to this though as I could see the same thing on the U2312hm I tried but it was 100 times worse.

Change the blue to 43 (this helps get rid of a bit of the purple hue that is sometimes seen on white images)
Change to Gamma mode 3
For normal desktop use i have brightness set to 23.

It always makes you think you need loads of colour to have everything vibrant but at these settings the colours appear very good. The only thing that is niggling at the moment (but it may just be a case of trying to get used to it) Is the glossy screen and having to see myself when video goes to dark scenes, i never got this with my 226BW as that was a matte screen.
Really need to keep using this screen to see if it's a small compromise for how good things look on it.
Today is overcast ouside but can still see the window (blinds are shut) and myself...looking to the right where i have my other monitor and nothing.

It's a shame about how reflective it is, must be there to make colour look more vibrant.

Slouching in my chair i see quite a bit of colour shift but no dead pixels that i have noticed yet.

Well off to test with BF3 n see how the 120hz goes and if these reflections become too much....

The reflective glossy screen was one of the reasons I almost didnt order one, it is a bit weird seeing yourself but I think for the price/performance I'll make myself live with it, tend to use the PC in the evenings so should be able to avoid it most of the time!

Good luck with the BF3 testing I'm looking forward to see how it improves the BF3 experience later.

I just bought one yesterday. Was hard to choose between this and a Dell 1920x1200 IPS. I chose this and I hope I haven't made the wrong decision.. :o I'll be playing BF3 and Skyrim and I'm sure it's going to look great. I do however want to do some Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Premiere work too. Wish I had a Dell IPS and one of these side by side to compare..

What should be the correct height of tft monitor for gaming?
I have always had mine on a poker set tin which raises it around 4inches. Id say when sit up straight my eye level is with the top of the bezel, but i dont game like this as i slouch a little leaned back into my seat so my eye level is around 1/3 from top.

I ask this as when i went into gamma mode in Diablo to sort the correct brightness when i was slouched the top half of the image wasnt there but could see the bottom. When i sat straight ai could see it all as one, so this monitor must have a worse viewing angle so wondering if i should take the screen of the poker tin but then would be sorta looking down at it!?

I set it up like this thinking with my eyes more closer to the middle would feel more absorbed in games as covers my eyes better. I can set the monitor to lean back mode 1 which just seems to add more brightness!??

What do people have on there settings when gaming? Do you just switch monitor to the gaming profile in 'Samsung Magic Bright'??

quick warning to people buying this monitor. amd's hd3d (which is what this monitor is designed for) only supports hd3d over hdmi or displayport. displayport displays hd3d at 60hz per eye, and is the preferred solution. this monitor only has hdmi, which only supports 24hz per eye in hd3d at 1080p. i have this monitor and it's great, but gaming at 24hz... not ideal. movies are usually shot in 24fps so they'll be good with hdmi, so at least there's that (except for the hobbit in 48fps, and probably the next generation of films to come... :p)

Not sure what you mean. You can use the DVI-D and get as many frames as your PC can put out. Try using the Tridef Control Panel to change the AMDHD3D output settings. I can get in the 40s in Skyrim and BF3 at 1080 in 3D.

I have found a couple of games like Deus Ex seems to only put out at 24Hz no matter what the connection I use.

i keep reading that nvidia 3d uses dvi for 60hz 1080p, while amd hd3d uses dp for 60hz 1080p. both output 24hz on hdmi. tbh i hope i'm wrong but i can only find forum posts on the issue, where some people say that hd3d won't work from dvi. i've just been using my monitor for watching sbs half width using an nvidia card, so not speaking from experience. official sources don't really go into detail on the matter :s

but if you're right then... awesome ^^

Yea that's the problem with AMD's 3D tbh, finding out definitive answers. I think the above was the case before the 11 or 12 series of drivers from ATI?

What games have you tried? Hopefully you may only have the same problem as I have with Deus Ex HR were no matter what the connection it will only play at 24Hz, unless I set it as SBS mode in 3D. Then the limit seems to be gone and I get in the 40s 50's. I think Crysis 2 is the same.

I've been in contact with Tridef support over eyefinity 3D problems though and they have been quite helpful I must admit.

Now I just need to know how to connect my 3D glasses to all 3 monitors and I'm away! :)

oh good to know drivers can fix it. i was wondering why they'd block out dvi since it's obviously capable of carrying 1080p120. actually as i said i wasn't speaking from experience. my pc won't be built until next week :p. until then i'm literally using a pentium d and 7900gs, and only using the monitor to watch movies. thanks though, you've defo cleared up some misconceptions.

2D to 3D actually works

I've got mine connected to an Nvidia GTX 570 via HDMI, using 3D Play software to allow 3D hdmi output from WinDVD Pro 11. I changed the HDMI black level to low and the image seems quite good. What has surprised me most is the quality of the 2D to 3D conversion built in to the monitor. Personally, I would rather watch 2D than poor 3D any day. Out of curiosity I watched a 2D version of Avatar in 3D mode, expecting to be disgusted by the result. I don't have a 3D disk to compare it with, but I can't imagine it getting much better than this. Maybe it's just certain material that works well (lots of camera panning), I don't know, but this certainly did.
