Hey,

It's been aaaages since I've been on here, had to rack my brains for my password :D

So, I have a 2005 Porsche Boxster S, in decent condition. And I'm looking to change it this Summer. I haven't had a chance to really look around at alternatives yet, and haven't really considered anything other than another Porsche so far.

Been offered a nice 3.4ltr 2008 (987S.1) Sport Edition, very well spec'd, well in budget, and I know its history. I don't really like the new DFI engines in the 2nd gen 987s, plus my budget would only stretch to a 2.9, and I'd only consider a 3.4, so 2009+ is not an option.

997s are out on the grounds that to be in budget, it'd be an older 2005\2006 model with miles under it's belt.

Before I go with this default option, are there any alternative marques which I'm overlooking?

Thanks :)

First thought on seeing the title was boxster S, but you have one already. A newer better one would be an obvious option, but does it have what you really want?

Alternative at this price? could look at a merc slk55 amg?

I know the M3 is a great car in my head, I just don't think it's for me. It's never something that's appealed to me in the least.

As for the 997, I love them, but condition is important to me. A 2005 car with high mileage would feel like retrograde step compared to a newer, low-mileage specced up Boxster S. Plus, I think a C2S in good condition would push the budget somewhat, leaving me exposed to the liklihood of expensive repairs that are common at that age (rads\condensers\clutch\PASM etc).

What about a cayman?

Or the new z4 35i? With a quick remap it will be a lot faster then your boxter, has a better interior, it should cost less to run and having the tin top gives you the best of both worlds.

Failing that the TTs is also a good car but i feel it's very over priced for what it is.

This is a little over your price range but I assume you could get 1 to 2 k off the asking price

What's the colour/mileage/spec of yours/the one you've been offered?

What the driver behind the change?

For interest, what's wrong with the DFI engines in the Gen2?

I saw this online a few days ago, it does look like very good value for money.

I know its not an S but i was just using it as an example of a car that wont immediately need a lump spending on rads clutch etc.

Also anyone with any worries about money is going to OPC warranty it anyway for peace of mind.

Me i would say an 05 997 is an upward move from an 05 Boxster however you look at it.

Yah the 4.7 would nicer but they are a lot more money. Is the running cost of a AM V8v really that much higher then a 911?

Yea different league also one (the Porsche) is reliable and the other plagued by electrical problems, i'd never have another Aston as long as i got a hole in my bum.
