Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone is building much with DDR3 yet? OCUK don't have any full builds with it and there looks not to be many Mobos that can use it either (i may be wrong?)
Basically i'm looking at a new rig pretty soon, spending around £2-2.5K. Should i look at DDR2 or 3 and what are the pro's and cons or either. I don't want to end up with another un-upgradable pc! It's pretty much going to be a gaming machine, nothing more.

I know it's not much to go on, but i'm appreciate your oppinions about it.

Thanks

Would do good, but get some sick cooling too, and a Penryn processor which will clock high, to be able to utilize all that bandwidth, anything else would suck :)

Hmm i think i understand. The Fsb speed on the cpu has to match the frequency as the ram? So the only option at the moment would be the QX6850 duo. which is a pretty dear do!
Actually i found an article on tinternet was saying about the DDR2 was performing just as well as the DDR3 at the moment, but the main thing they found out on the test was the improvement when they used a P35 mobo. Still it's one mans opinion i guess and i'm nowhere near knowlagable enough to judge for myself :(
My last PC has lasted about 4 years so far with an extra 1/2 gig of ram added, a new gfx card, case and power supply on it's journey, so i'm guessing even if i go middle of the range it'll still last me a good amount of time.

I'd go for DDR2 now but if you really don't upgrade very often then I might look at DDR2/DDR3 combo solution like this one, which has support for future penryn chips as well.

DDR3 offers a lot more bandwidth but the very slack timings mean the performance is similar to DDR2, don't have experience with DDR3 so can't be 100% sure though. But once the production matures we'll see plenty of high speed DDR3 with lower timings at very reasonable price.
