I've just finished my order for telewest broadband, tv and phone package (£35 isnt half bad).
It's for a new house which I have been told already has the cables. I move in in 3 weeks.
Is there anything i should look at getting or making sure the engineer does when they install it all?

make sure you know where you want to have the cable modem before the engineer comes. They aren't too easy to move if you get it in the wrong place. Are you going to be using a router with it?

I think there may already be a modem in the house, but in the wrong room. Will the guy be able to move it?

I'm hoping to go from the modem to an 8 port netgear router that i've had for a while.

All they will do now is install the modem to what ever room you need it in & then leave it at that, everything else like setting it up to work for the pc you have to do by yourself or with the cd user guide they provide.

Just had my '2mb' connection installed today and it hasn't gone over 512k.
I havent done anything with that cd they left behind yet, is it likely to affect anything or is it just oversubscribed?

I was of the understanding that the cable modem has an ethernet output.
All this talk of a CD makes me think that it needs to be controlled by a PC, is this correct? or am i just reading too much into all the Cd speak

They have an ethernet port aye. The CD is just to automate getting the network card to do DHCP etc.
The guys who install it normally have to see it working on one machine (or did when I got mine installed and when I was working for them). There's a box they need to tick to confirm they tested speed and also have to give details of the SNR etc off the modem itself.

When the guy came round for me, he told me not to use the cd, ever. All the men did was feed the cable into my room, plug in the modem, test it had connection then leave.

I hope he doesn't need to see it working on a pc.. as they;ll al be in boxes from the move.
Hopefully my router will link up and do all the hard work.
