I decided to give the Audi a machine polish as the paint was patchy and dull in sunlight

generally it came up ok but in bright sunlight it has been left with what look like huge smears

if you look at this picture then the smearing sort of follows this type of pattern, obvioulsy no where near as bad and only visible in direct sunlight

I took the advice of the place I got the stuff from when I did it, used G6 compund and kept it wet at all times, though looking on the web maybe this was not needed and just created loads of mess

is the finish down to the motion patterns I used or do I need to go over again with a different pad/compound ?

any advice would be helpful

cheers folks

do I need to keep it wet when doing it as that just seemed to make a mess ?

also should I use the same pad I used for the G6 or a different one ?

3M Ultrafina is good for removing swirls and holograms from dark colours. It's a finishing layer so very very fine and you don't need to put much effort into it to get good results.

What machine? rotary or da?

What pads?

What speed are you polishing at?

Sealey MS900PS Rotary, bloke in shop said it was a decent one :p

Pad - the one he game me, no idea what it is

Speed 2-3 out of 6

I really should have worked all this out before I started :p

I would have a play on something other than your audi as a rotary with the wrong pad-polish combo will take off the clear coat in no time.

This and avoid wool heads like the plague. They are up to 50% more aggressive than a foam pad.

there was a wool pad in the box bit I didn't use it

shall I practice on the Porsche then ? ;)

Just looked at your Rotary, 2-3 is way way too high. Starting speed is 1400 on yours.

Mine is 900 and estimate speed @ 1.5 is about 1500.

You must have been polishing at circa 2.5k+!!

I use Autoglym Super resin polish with my rotary then buff off with a microfibre cloth, never had any probs.
