Hi Guys..

I have read lots and lots of information that is available in these forums and it is very good...even read the beginners guide to overlocking several times but still wasn't sure what to do.

But I am a total newbie when it come to overclocking and im sure most of of will say best I just leave alone with my very limited knowledge.

I don't want to set the world on fire would just like to get my CPU up to about 3.6ghz and do it the easyiest way possible but need all the help I can get.

This is my system

MOB...Asus P5N SLi
CPU....Intel e8500 core 2 duo
GPU....XFX GTX 260
MEM...2x2gb OCZ Reaper 800MHZ
PSU....Modular Coolmaster M620

Not sure what else you would need to know....wanted to just use a auto overclocking feature but the Asus Ai Booster program I downloaded from the website blue screen of deaths my PC when I try to open the program then on re-boot won't boot....have to go into safe mode, remove the AI booster then it boots up fine...this program worked fine with my e6750 but again only took it to 2.9ghz without any issues.

Sorry to sound like Im a total idiot but any help to do what I am trying to do would be much apprieciated

thx

Thats great guys thanks for your replies.

Great forum BTW very helpful....I will try the oc tonight when i am home from work and see how we go just changing the FSB to 400 and start from there....like i said I am not trying to push my machine to the limit just want to make it faster...

Mostly I use it for online gaming so its never under and any mutliple application stress have pc probe2 installed so i can monitor temps and Vs as I go along.

Thanks again for your replies and help with this will let you know how I get on tonight!

Is that the P5N-E SLi, or just the plain P5N board?

The P5N-E isn't a stellar board so don't expect great results, but it is very easy to overclock. You might want to invest in additional northbridge cooling though.

I didnt really list my MB right the first time sorry..its the ASUS P5N32-E SLi don't know if that makes any difference.

Hello again

Not sure if im looking in the wrong place and please dont shoot me down for being a nood here...

went into my bios and set th OC options to manual, then went into the FSB option and when i went to add the 400mhz it said that it had to be min 544 or max 1333?

Am i doing something wrong or just looking oin the wrong place?

Thanks

Ok just thought i would give you an update

Got my CPU up to 3.8ghz everything seems stable but going to run a few more tests on it...improved my benchmark by 4500 so all in all a good result for me

Thx to those that helped me out with the overclocking.
