Hi Guys,

First time in here, please be gentle :D

Im looking into getting into photography, i have a keen eye for what i think would make a good pic.

Im looking at getting a fuji finepix s5700 as a starter camera. Looks to be a decent size, and the optical zoom on it would be a nice bonus.

Found out that digital zoom is crap when at biggin hill this weekend lol.

So has anyone got any experiance of the s5700? or cameras like it which are similar in size/price.

Cheers

I'd be suprised if anyone has experience of the camera as it's not been out long.

Since you mention Biggin Hill i'm guessing you are into military aviation? Looking at the specs of the S5700 I notice four things on note....

1) The sensor size is still 1/2.5" yet the megapixel count has increased from 5 to 7 from the S5600 so I wonder if noise will be a problem?
2) It doesn't have image stabilisation which will make taking pictures of fast moving objects at distance difficult.
3) The countinous shooting speed is only 1.7fps which is pretty slow (from memory Canon IXUS pocket sized cameras are faster!).
4) They claim shutter lag of 0.01 seconds but don't say under what conditions, I'd bet it isn't at telephoto!

For the money you are looking to spend I would either save up more or take a look at the 2nd hand market. Something like the Panasonic FZ5 maybe?

not really looking to go second hand, len's problems and such.

Have managed to source the s5700 with 2 year warranty for £136 so not too bad i dont think.

If it takes of as a hobby i will probably look into getting some more gear.

ok,

the high street mucked me about

what a surprise, obviously i cannot go into names here, but.

I ordered it online to collect in store online its 140, in store its 200!

and they refused to let me have it at the online price!!

^^Gord^^

you have saved me some hassel and money mate. reading up on it, what little info i can find, the s5700 isnt as well received as the s5600 was. I have found a 5600 for £100 new so will be collecting that tonite :D

Nice one.

Photography wise, im into all sorts lol

Aviation, working at luton airport helps! dont live anywhere near here though thank god!!

Also castles and such, and naval (tall ships)

I think the s5600 should be a good starting point. And will see how i go from there :D

Cheers

Can't wait to see your pics datamonkey.

Nice camera. :)

Love fuji!

My gf uses a s9600 and my sister has a s5000. Awesome camera's... compact, effective and excellent quality!
