New to PS3 - What should I buy?

Little brother is having a PS3 for his birthday (Result!:o). Now I've been off the sony scene for a while after converting to an Xbox a couple of years ago.

What am I missing out on? What mush have games are ther out, and what should I be waiting for?

I like the look of assasins creed (purely from the adverts), my brother will be buying the batman game which I'm looking for ward to playing.
 
I could recommend games, but I will wait for the people to tell you that there is a million of these threads and to use the search button.

Woah, not played a metal gear solid game since the Playstation 1! Please tell me is of the same mould?!

I will check up on the other games...

if your going for metal gear, i'd get the 2 and 3rd for the ps2 and play those first. i think you'll enjoy the fourth more if you play those. (obviously you'll need a ps2 to play them though)
 
You will pick up AC for peanuts now, I think its about £10 new...

There are quite a few decent games on the PS3, anticonscience listed a few, also look at...

Resistance 1 and 2
Wipeout (PSN game)
Heavenly Sword
 
From playing them briefly I'd recommend Tekken 6 and the game with the amoeba (or something like that) which you eat things and keep getting bigger, which uses the motion capability of the PS3 controllers. Forgotten the name though...
 
Right guys thanks for all the suggestions I will be looking into them.

Just got back and managed to get him the 120gb slim with the new batman game that he really wanted for £270.

I picked up Uncharted for £14 too. Uncharted 2 looks pretty decent so I didnt really want to spend full whack on a game if I'm buying that too soon.

He's getting Fifa when it comes out this week.

My couple of weeks off work just got a little less boring :D
 
Killzone 2 – you’ll use the motion sensors in the DS3 for this game.
Batman Arkham Asylum – you can play as Joker on PS3

Metal Gear solid is a hardcore cutscene game.. lol Its got excellent graphics though.
Uncharted is now cheap on platinum .

You can soon get Wipeout HD with Wipeout frenzy on blu ray cheaper then on the PSN store, so I’d look out for the blu ray release.

Recommend a blu ray remote, install vidzone and PSN home has a rather funky online bowling game you can play for free…

i tried this... got MGS2...it .. sux... it seems so basic and the dude runs so fast its almost comical...

wasted £7:/ but maybe u will take something out from it.

i recommend u download MGS4 demo from Store and see if you like it! i did!

both excellent games and should be able to pick up quite cheap these days, fallout 3 is my fav of the 2 but not sure if DLC is out on the ps3 yet but the core game will keep you entertained for 100+ hours (i've put in over 600 hours myself first on the 360 the moved to pc version for all the cool mods :D)
