New to SLR - which one to get?

There's little difference at the low end of the market between brands and it's more about what you like in terms of size, weight and layout. I would hate to use a camera where iso was buried in menus but that's just me.

There's no reason to rue out the Sony cameras they've received good reviews too.

Yup, it's a good idea to go into a shop to try out the weight and ergonomics. I've found the 450D and my hands were made for each other :p but on a serious note. Initially, I never got to play around with the camera when on as most of the places I went to never had them working! I eventually had a play around somehow.
