With our little one around, I hate to admit it, but I don't get to listen to our system anything like as much as I'd like (at least at the volumes I'd prefer).

More recently I've been using my existing headphone combo of Rega Ear and Sennheiser HD600. The Ear was voiced to work with HD600s and really is a very good match. However, curiosity got the better of me, and yesterday I spotted something that I simply couldn't resist, i.e. one of these:

It's a Meier HA2 se, which is a supposedly a rather good mid-range headphone amp that supposedly works very nicely with Sennheiser cans.

I had initially started looking at some of the Darkvoice valve range, but build quality and reliability issues made me think twice about that.

Should arrive tomorrow, so I can hopefully give a quick run down on it post the weekend.

Just need to clear the Ear now.

Very nice, the Meier stuff looks great but I have never had teh pleasure of listening to one.

Was considering some Senns and a darkvoice 3322 amp this xmas but the company fallout and QC issues have steered me away from that. Maybe a Beta22 build or look at a Wooooooo Audio, but the price of one of those is pretty harsh.

Might consider a DV amp from teh jamine seller on ebay, apparently very good.

Enjoy!

I was very tempted by the idea of a valve DV unit and nearly ordered one (there was at least one available on Headfi.org). The Graham Slee units are also well recommended. Mainly ended up with the Meier as it was being sold at what seemed to be a very sensible price.

Finally got the chance to have a good listen yesterday.
Definitely an improvement on the old amp, but I guess that's only to be expected as when new, the Meier would have been something like 2-3 times more expensive.
The noise floor is definitely lower, aiding a big improvement in low level detail and nuances. It's also more boppy and fun to listen to. I can see my using the cans even more now.
The only problem is that it still doesn't sound as good as the main stereo/speaker combination, which makes me wonder about improving the headphones, oh bugger!
