I'm after some new trainers for running, mainly on the treadmill but there'll be a fair bit of road running involved as well. Any particular brand that's better than the others? Budget is roughly £50 - £70. TIA.

I would suggest if you have a running shop nearby going in and asking them.

Look to see how your old ones are scuffed so you can tell them how you run ie on your toes or whatever.

Running shoes shouldn't be any old crap as you could pay for it later.

1st Go get some GAIT analyst down and a good shoe/running shop
2nd try some on and see what feels the best while taking in advice from the person who ran the GAIT.
3rd Buy shoes
4th Dont be cheap, if they shoes that suit you more cost more then pay more.
5th Tread mills suck IMO :p

BTW i use Asics Kayanos, I over pronate and need them to help with this due to them being rigid and made for stability.

Asics are good although they wear out faster then other brands ive had before (Ie Nike)

Nike are good and last for ever IME but they just dont have a good enough stability shoe out on the market for me.

Anyway, Dont go by what people say on here or by brands, Go by what the GAIT tells you and what feels the best

It's just gait, not GAIT. It's a noun meaning the way you walk or run, hence someone analyses your gait to help you choose shoes.

Aside from that, go and do it as it's the best way to avoid aches, painsand injury.

I over pronate and have worn Brooks, New Balance and Saucony in recent years in addition to custom othotics. When do find the best fit, don't worry about colour, make or style, just worry about protecting your ankles and knees.

Also a point to make a friend with to a pyshio and they helped sort his feet out with some carbon fibre in soles, cant remember exactly what his issue was though.

Unless hes got problems then i doubt he will need these.

Once he starts running and gets problems or the gait shows he seriously over pronates then he should go and as a podiatrist what he should do.

With feet id always go to a podiatrist over a Physio:)

And i do have custom orthotics BTW:)

Does not compute.. how can you mainly run on a treadmill with a fair bit of road running.

Anyway treadmill is not the same a road, so if you do both to equal extents then I'd have different shoe for each.. e.g. taking ASICS as the example and for a moderate overpronator, kayano for the road and DS trainer for the treadmill.

and you absolutly do not want orthoses (carbon fibre jobby wotsits) unless you have diagnosed issues.

My opinion; go to a decent sports (i.e running) shop, mid week, and ask them to recommend something.

Echo most of the comments here. It is worthwhile going to a running shop initially, just to try a few brands. I mainly use Asics but also use Mizuno and Saucony as well as some New Balance.

Also, don't write Nike off as they produce some good shoes, although I have not used them for beards.

The treadmill gait analysis can, I find, be a bit hit and miss. It will highlight obvious pronation issues, but you run differently on a treadmill than on the road. You may benefit form taking in a pair of old shoes.

I got a great pair of Asics 2140 for 42 quid from JJB of all places. I knew exactly what I wanted and they are great.

Thanks for the responses. Bought some Asics yesterday and tried them out in the evening and they're great :) Gym was ridiculously busy though with all the new years resolution runners in...
