New "Whiteboard"!

edit in the sense of why not pay a bit more and get a proper white board or even put some thought into it and put some nice fitting wood up or whatever.

Well the thing holding the pen seems to disagree :p

It's not non-magnetic, just less magnetic than normal steel... :p

Whilst it is strictly true that (normal eg sink, kitchen etc 304L and 316L) stainless steel is not technically non maganetic, it is so unmagnetic that the difference in real life is not that noticable.

We do a quick check on metals at work to check whether something is stainless steel by using a big magnet, certainly bigger than the op's pen holder.

So it really shouldn't be sticking there. Therefore, the answer is that it is not stainless steel (eg like your sink) or alternatively it could be a ferritic stainless steel which are magnetic but would be a surpising thing to make a worktop since it is not really recogised as being "food safe" compared to the normal 304L and 316L stainless steels.

I stand corrected (said the man with the orthopaedic shoes) :p
