Newbie to photography

Just bought a Nikon D50 with stock lens kit and starting to get into photography. So far I think this is my best pic and was after C&C. Picture is of my little boy who is sometimes camera shy so was pleased to capture this

Wow, nice one, really like it. With some tweaking in PS it would look even more proffesional. Good start, and keep up the good work

Good first effort! I know that it is difficult to position kids for portraits, but if possible, try to think about what is in the background, as clutter can distract from the subject a bit

, this shot was just of the cuff and happend to catch him at the right moment. Next time I'll try to set up shots a bit different, like you say make the background better.
