Newbie to photography

Just bought a Nikon D50 with stock lens kit and starting to get into photography. So far I think this is my best pic and was after C&C. Picture is of my little boy who is sometimes camera shy so was pleased to capture this

Thanks for the feedback , this shot was just of the cuff and happend to catch him at the right moment. Next time I'll try to set up shots a bit different, like you say make the background better.
