I'm not a fan of the Magpies, but from what I can see one of the major influences for the clubs contiuned under-achievement is Alan Shearer.

Ruud Gullit confirmed that Shearer is a poisonous influence in the dressing room.

Although he is a Geordie Legend, and was a superb striker, his day is past as shown in his output this season of 4 goals in 22 apps in the Premiership.

I know he retires in the Summer, but for the past couple of seasons the most important thing for him seems only to be criticising the Manager, and breaking Milburn's record.

hes had no service to score to be honest. and ive never ever heard him critise the manager. supermac said the other night, in the last 10 games or so hes had like a handful of chances

also the antics of the board want a good look at too, nevermind shearer

yeh we know
fair enough... if he come out and said no again that would be fair comment.

but a man utd fan came on another forum and ha da go at newcastle fans for mentioning him as a replacement because of the family problems,

but the point being if any manager left the club someone would mention MON in the running frame

at the end of the day, he is returning to football so its only a matter of when... and he is a good manager... so who wouldnt mention him as a possible replacement.

but obviously it is his call.. and if more time at home is needed, no one can say otherwise

You Newcastle fans are weird. MU win a trophy, and the forum is full of posters no-ones ever seen before celebrating. They start playing badly, and suddenly they're nowhere to be seen. Newcastle finish top 6 for three seasons in a row and there's no sign of you lot. Suddenly you're in the relegation zone and you've dumped your manager, and you all start crawling out of the woodwork.

What's that all about? :p

Ive thought that myself.
I thought there was only a handful on here , until yesterday.

Im my opinion Ruud Gullit is a Knob. What does he know ffs. And i am a Chelsea fan.
Shearer was an arrogant git and yes probably awkward to deal with but recently he has matured a great deal and seems much more content and happy with himself. As a commentator and in interviews he seems very grounded to me.
Top bloke Shearer and all the goals he scored for my England makes him a Hero in my world.
I wouldn't be worried about Shearer i would be worried about Sven.
You can quote all his results all you like but i really don't feel he has the kind of manner to control and get the best out of English footballers.
He seems to have a calming effect on those around him and i don't feel this is the effect a struggling side wants. I like confident aggressive managers that dominate there clubs and Demand performance from there players.
I also feel that any success we have had under Sven would have been beaten by another manager with the same side. After all he has had the Greatest English team ever to be put together.
I'm probably wrong but its just how i feel. I have screamed Shearers name metres away when he wears my Colours and then fell into Euphoria when he has put England in front. I don't forget anybody that serves my country with passion.

Ruud Gullit was nearly as useless as Souness as a manager so pretty much discount his comments.

Shearer is one of the best striker's produced in a long long time in England and when he was playing alognside Owen before Owen was injured he looked as sharp as he has doen for 3/4 years, give Shearer service and he will score theres no question about it, the problem is theres no service

And to top it all hes a proper role model, a genuine, honest and down to earth guy not like most of the current crop of "super stars" who have the biggest egos around

To blame Shearer for out current situation is, proposturous

Totally agree with what Lawro has said on bbc, only think he missed was Bramble, our defence is a joke.

With respect, Ruud Gullit is one of the best European players of the past 20 years, an integral part of the AC Milan that swept both domestic and continental honours.

I'd say he knows a fair bit about football.
