Next workhorse, let's not make it a Passat

Test driving a 320D Friday.

Btw, parked up lunch time for a bite to eat, got out of car, walked away, turned round and noticed: -

Y'know I'm just so glad I got a VW Passat and not something common like a Ford Mondeo.

Get an Alfa 159 Touring. Looks absolutely fantastic and it will make sure you get to work less times during the year than any other car on your could even get close to :p

BMW 320D
Honda Accord
Mondeo

In that order. Don't buy an Alfa. You'll get fired for not turning up to work, as your boss won't believe you had to take the car into the garage, AGAIN. When in fact it's true. Your house will be repossed through inability to pay the bills, and you'll be living on the streets wearing tattered clothes, descending into foaming-at-the-mouth anxiety fits whenever a Passat drives past the doorway you're sleeping in.

Or something along those lines.

Plus you'll become a tedious bore posting on the internet about how the dashboard that rattles gives it character and how the fact the glovebox fell off again is part of its soul, which that German rubbish doesnt have.

Make sure it's an M Sport. They drive differently.

Tis, yes, manual too.

What a hellish carpark that is. Is anything in that picture not at the bottom of each respective manufacturers model list?

Spot on, it's full of industry losers. Oh wai.. :(

I didn't notice the CC till I got back to work and mailed myself the pic.

i'd give the mazda 6 a go actually - its not got ze vonderful German build quality granted but the new one's interior is actually pretty damn nice and they drive surprisingly well :) same steering rack as the mx-5 and it really shows....

still the beemers probably going to get you the least hassle on here ;)

If it where my money, I'd go with the flock and look at the 320/520D.. I mean what else is there?

If it has to be new, the Insignia in it's sport hatch estate guise looks good, and it's about as difference a Vx as you'll ever get.. 170BHP CDTi with 4 wheel drive/Flexride to possibly make things passable handling wise..

Kinda OT cause you want RWD but I really like those new Accords. The looks pretty decent and I was having trouble getting rid of one the other night, must have been the 2.4 Petrol as it isn't so far off the CTR figures wise.

I like the BMW and the Legacy looks wise. I'd probably go Jap as I'm that way inclined but I can see you ending up with the 3 series unless the Legacy options works out considerably cheaper without being too much of a compromise.

Mazda 6 Diesels, both late Mk1 and Mk2 have got major issues with the particle filter system filling the sump with diesel. At best some drivers are needing oil changes every 3.5k, at worst the engines are blowing up if the owner doesn't notice the levels in the sump have risen and the turbo sucks the contents of the sump and the engine runs away on it.

They have 3 levels on the dipstick - min, max and an X above the max mark to indicate you need an oil change, and as this is explained in the manual if your engine blows up on the contents of the sump they refuse to pay out.

Avoid.

Nice! glad we didn't get a derv for the misses :D mainly due to the higher service costs...
