*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Plenty of people buy a Nexus device for the modding community. Just because you don't know that doesn't mean its not the case.

Nexus 5 V2?

http://www.engadget.com/2013/12/13/google-nexus-5-improved-speaker-and-buttons/

same thing was done with n4.. this afaik has the button "rattle" fixed and bigger speaker holes.. I guess it's good that they bother with it and thinking about it, if you're unhappy with the rattle(that some seem to get) just return it for a new replacement boom

UPDATE ON SIGNAL ISSUE

My Nexus 5 actually has what appears to be a hardware fault. I am RMAing it. I thought it was the latest update that muffed the signal (it may have) but the phone is different to my friends Nexus. With the phones next to each other, we tried different sims from different networks in both phones and the poor signal only occured on my Nexus. Both phones are on 4.4.2.

I phoned google support and they made me clear cache and then a factory reset and it was the same so they are RMAing it.

I hope I get the replacement before Xmas. Will be a good opportunity to test out the backup restore features as I did backups and hope to restore the replacement to how the old one was.

Apparently the latest Nexus 5 phones that are shipping have slightly modified hardware. Is that true? Specifically the speaker a mate told me.

only button rattle is sorted and bigger speaker holes

Sounds strange, I would put my money on your phone actually having been dispatched today if the money is taken. Sometimes their info can be slow to update, usually the first big indicator a Nexus device is on the way is the money having been taken.

Never experienced the money getting taken before dispatch. Give it till tonight I suspect you will get a dispatch email some time today.

edit: As said above it could be the pre-auth thing. Which would mean no funds have actually been withdrawn.

the payment was probably just "allocated" not taken.. which simply means that you won't see it in your available balance yet still have it in your bank when google finally dispatches the item.. if something goes poof google can simply cancel it and the money will be back to your available balance without them needing to transfer it from one account to another.

On my online banking, my current balance is ... but my actual balance available is £349 less, looking into the account, it says google Playetc etc £349 on the 17th of december.

which is what it should be then :) from your point of view there's no difference if they have or haven't taken the money.. either way you can't use it :) was exactly the same in my case.

It's not something big but I saw another bloke using a Nexus 5 black on the train today. It's the first time I've seen someone else other than myself using a Nexus device.

The train's usually full of people using iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S devices.

another guy in my office bought one on release.. 16gb tho so I'm better.. :D

I was a friends house last night and I showed them a video on my Nexus 5. They both commented on how good and loud the sound was out the speaker.
They asked what the phone was and when I told them neither had heard of it. They both had HTC one's (old one)
I like been in the minority :D

I still have my oppo find 5.. haven't seen anyone with one :o no one at work ever heard of oppo.. never seen the phone either :o that was a nice convo starter.. I've had random people ask me what phone it was in the lift a couple of times too lol.

Do all the Nexus 5 phones come with the yellow tint screen? Had mine a couple of weeks and it doesn't dry up or go clear. Compared it to my mates early Nexus 5 and its night and day yellow vs white.

Looking online it appears as if all nexus 5 phones are now yellow tinted? People say they dry out but its just your brain getting used to it.I thought mine had turned white until I saw my mates screen yesterday and its loads clearer!

mines as white as it gets.. mind you I got it on release :)

MS and Android have already created a dual operating system (or one that runs in parallel) so I don't see why Nokia wouldn't want to do an android based system.

In other news, I've got the dreaded Error installing app -24 error - only call for it is a reset, and I've just got the phone the way I want it :'(

Ah well.

backup launcher etc? and reset and restore?

Cant make up my mind.

For someone that doesnt need the space:

16GB @ £279

or

32Gb @ £340

you've been sitting in this thread since release if not longer and you still haven't made your mind up? also you just answered your own question, if you don't need the space stick with 16gb.. 12ish gb free is more than enough to most people

been using purity rom for last 3 months,

just went back to stock, fancied a clean start from all the flashing ive been doing with custom roms

where has the sms app gone? only gives me hangouts now

it was never there :) hangouts replaced sms.. your purity rom had that as an addition and that's it.
