Nexus II in time for xmas

Verizon-exclusive Continuum dual-screen smartphone - what a POS!

If they actual made the phone further up in this thread they'd be laughing at the the amount of sales they'd get. But no, let make some POS phone with a meaningless second screen.

I wish some more info would come out about the nexus two....its killing me knowing I could get a Desire HD on upgrade...but I really want this to be good and come out soon....

Can't wait although I would prefer not a plastic back cover.

or at the very least, non glossy, high quality plastic, it's the shine (and pattern) that makes it look cheap. If the price is right I'll end up buying it, at the end of the day I think I'd rather have stock android than sense (using alternative apps and launcher) as I would expect updates for at least a year, longer if you can follow the dev community.

Good god , that phone is pretty ugly/cheap looking , it would have been better if they had done a design just like the mock up virtual one by gizmodo, although if samsung used something other than a cheap shiny plastic gloss casing for once  like a nice metal/matt type of finish, similar to the HTC mobiles (desire, nexus 1 etc.) it would have been quite a bit better looking, would have a better feel to it and look a bit more expensive and not like a toy.

Apart from that, it would still be my first choice out of all the android mobiles as long as it is not too expensive, would be willing to pay up to £500 if I was paying outright (currently stuck on a 2 year contract :(, so would just sell my spica and put the money I get from it towards the nexus S/2 and just pop my SIM card into it) and if it was greater than that price, then I would be happy to wait for the price to drop a bit below £500.

Main Reasons for getting this mobile over all other android mobiles IMO:

- Guaranteed to get updates as soon as there out, no waiting about for about 3-5 months until you actually get the update as by then, there will probably be another android update out, rinse and repeat

- Stock android, none of the crap apps/UI put on by the companies

- Will be a top end/leadership mobile for a good year or so

- The superior SAMOLED screen

And a few other reasons.

Just wish google would hurry up and release some solid info on this and gingerbread :(

well the cpu wont be any faster than the current 1ghz if its coming out anytime soon

Just no especially in the android market place. I thought that when i got Nexus one and in reality it was a leader for about 2 or 3 months until something better comes out never mind years.

Well considering samsung is already demoing a dual core hummingbird (called orion) and theres rumours that it may make it to a phone this year, it's possible the nexus s may have it. There's also a possible february release of a galaxy s replacement based on it too.

Unless this phone comes out with more than just a hummingbird cpu plus stock android then it doesn't make sense to buy it when in literally 2-3 months you could get a dual core option (albeit likely with touchwiz - samsung is usually easy to root though). The hackers will rip gingerbread from it quicksmart anyways and it would find it's way onto a galaxy s in no time I would suspect. I suppose I will need to wait and see costs and specs before deciding like I said before.

yeah be very surprised if anything comes out before Feb 2011 with any better cpu speed than what is currently out there, that makes me think if these nexusS rumours are true then it will either come out Q1 of 2011 or have the same spec as the galaxy, possible a little more memory, however how cool would it be if it did come out duel cored :D

Hmmm, maybe I should have worded that a bit better, and should have put 1 year and a bit instead of 2 :o

But anyway the nexus 1 might not be top mobile/best that you can buy now, but it is still a very powerful mobile and it has been out for nearly a year coming up to January (and IMO still one of the top end devices [if I was given the choice out of the desire HD, desire, galaxy S, personally I would go for the nexus 1 anyday] unless people need to have the very latest and best tech as soon as it comes out, even though it might not benefit them anymore than what there current mobile offers them) compared to most of the other android mobiles out there (apart from the desire HD, although, kind of pointless upgrading from a desire/nexus 1 to the HD IMO, just for an extra bit of RAM even though there really is no need for it at the minute and plus the 8MP HD camera (even though the desire/nexus 1 IMO take amazing photos and the HD recording on the HD isn't really that good IMO compared to the likes of the galaxy S), and the battery life is worse than the desire/nexus 1, although the desire HD does have a bigger screen, however the quality of the screen is no where as good as the nexus/desire even if there both using SLCD, the colours on the HD just look so washed out next to them IMO).

Suppose what I am trying to say is that, there will always be new mobiles out every few months etc. (just like with anything technology/electronic wise) however it does not mean that the older ones are crap and not capable of doing anything e.g. my samsung spica (rooted and flashed samdroid turbo etc.) performs just as well as my brothers desire (stock sense 2.2) IMO, it might feel a bit snappier, but my spica can do just about everything that my bro desire can do (obviously excluding the hardware features, like a 5MP camera, but in saying that the photos that I take look just as good as the photos he takes on his desire and also a few apps might not be supported on my mobile due to the resolution, CPU etc. like google earth [however there is one floating about somewhere that was made to work on my type of screen/processor], and flash 10.1 as it only works on armv7 processors [again, some people at samdroid.net have got flash 9.xxx working on eclair 2.1].

So IMO I can see the desire, nexus 1, galaxy S etc. still being top end for at least another year in terms of what they can do and will still be better than most mobiles probably that will come out next year. The main reason why I want to upgrade from my spica to this is due to samsungs lazy ass job that they have done with regards to updates/support, drivers etc. with my mobile, which the amazing developers have thankfully fixed now and improved even more than samsungs rubbish crap. Also for me I would rather have better support/more android updates than the best hardware as the updates IMO improve the android experience so much more than having the best hardware and that is why the nexus 1 and S/2 will always be the better choice IMO (also you get the updates straight away, don't have to wait for like 4-5 months), that way people don't have to upgrade/buy a new mobile for every 1/2 android update that is released.

Thankfully though google will keep Samsung in line, it will always have to be updated once google have released an update and google would not be pleased if they did a crap job with the drivers etc.

I would be very shocked if they didn't introduce something new in terms of hardware and not just increase the RAM etc. as you said it would be pointless since most of the top end mobiles are all very similar now, especially since all the rumors have stated that it will be pretty much superior to all the smartphones to date and also as stated many times before, google are really wanting to push the gaming forward, which they will need the better hardware for.

If the the nexus S/2 doesn't have a duel core, then maybe it might have a much better dedicated GPU (could possibly be by nvidia) than any of the other current smartphones to date for the games, which apparently are going to be much more hardware intensive and better than your current games.

yeah be very surprised if anything comes out before Feb 2011 with any better cpu speed than what is currently out there, that makes me think if these nexusS rumours are true then it will either come out Q1 of 2011 or have the same spec as the galaxy, possible a little more memory, however how cool would it be if it did come out duel cored :D

Well according to this:

http://androidandme.com/2010/10/pho...-coming-to-multiple-carriers-early-next-year/

These super high end mobiles with dual core processor, GPU done by nvidia have already been virtually finished and that Motorola are just waiting for the gingerbread update to put on them, so I would be surprised if HTC, Samsung etc. don't have something to compete with them by February.

However this is all based on rumors for the hardware specs of the nexus S etc. so could be completely wrong, could be very surprised or we could be very disappointed :(

Will all just have to really wait until an official confirmation has been made by google/samsung etc. Although hopefully it shouldn't be too long.

the one thing that you forgot about the desire hd (g2/desire z) versus nexus 1/desire is that they have the improved gpu from the updated snapdragons, android is heading down the gpu acceleration route so that will make a difference, if nothing more than smoothness.

I read on androidandme about the possibility that testers have said the same as we are, the single core cpu is not good enough and the reason it's 'delayed' (yeah I know unannounced can't be delayed lol) is due to them re-engineering with orion cpu. Now I hope that this is the case and hopefully they're changing the glossy casing too (anybody would think samsung can't manufacture non glossy plastic)

Woops :o, that as well, although if the rumors about these new games for android are true, then the desire will struggle and the games might be playable on the HD (but might not be very smooth), again impossible to say if this is true or not, but the chances of the gaming part are pretty good/true I think as Google have stated themselves that they really want to push the android gaming forward and plus by the sounds of the specs of the Motorola Terminator 2/T2 it will need the best/latest hardware (dual, much better GPU) in order for them to work smoothly etc. as I can't see any other need/reason for a dual core/nvidia GPU/processor as the desire HD/evo etc. handle pretty much everything thrown at them, even streaming HD films to a 42" plasma TV smoothly.

Lol, well if that is true, then it's good news as they really need to make the mobile better than all the other ones to date especially making it much better than the nexus 1, not just improve it a wee bit in terms of the hardware like what HTC did with the desire HD compared to the desire.

It really needs to be a next generation mobile IMO.

Yup, looks like it.

Does look a bit better, but still glossy plastic :(, although it should hopefully be light weight as the galaxy S :D

Can't wait till it comes out :D

SAMOLED 4"+ screen, official google phone guaranteed to get updates :D
