So here's the story

The old 50" Blaupunkt LCD TV was getting dated, so we fancied a new TV. So after some research i decided a 4K LED TV would be ideal. Decided on a Hisense due to costs, so went with a HE58KEC730. Initially really impressed, but then the trouble started when watching a footie match, and discovered vertical banding for the first time. It made any footie/cricket unwatchable. So after speaking with supplier, agreed a replacement, except they didnt have any more stock, so went with the bigger model: HE65K5510UWTS. Got this in and no change, again, no stock, but they had an alternative model in: H65M5500. Got this in, to find exactly the same issue!!

Got to the point, thinking this was a manufacturer fault, and reluctantly thought i would need to spend the extra to get a 'decent' brand. So went with LG: and the 65UH770V. Overall quality was better, but would you believe it, the same banding issue even with this set!!!

So, i am here now after having tried 3 Hisense models and the 1 LG. This one will also be going back, but now i am left wondering what my next step is. the whole exercise started back in May with the first set, and now to be honest i dont even want a new TV any more!!

Is there any saviour apart from OLED? and this is way beyond my budget, as i had even stretched myself for the LG (£1700). Looking for 65", but will drop to 60 if i can get the right TV. I have never found purchasing a device so torturing. In this day and age, how can manufacturers get away with this, especialy considering the cost.
Will dropping from a 65" to a 60" help with banding issues? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've been in a similar position I thought i would replace my old 42" toshiba LCD thinking newer must be better. Went with a larger LED philips ambilight. The damn thing sounded awful because the speakers were on the rear and they sounded muffled when wall mounted. I'd rather have a big bezel than have to use a soundbar.

Sent it back and i've given up looking as the old toshiba is perfect if not a little power thirsty.

I am having the exact same nightmare......

Purchased last week a LG flagship 55UH950v model *there greatest LCD set*
got it delivered and setup and there is banding on this set aswell, most noticable when any footy ie- panning shots are viewed* and not only that.....

but there is flash lighting in both bottom corners of the tv when viewing movies with black bars you can see the pulsing flashlight going on and its even worse when watching anything that requires dolby vision support as the tv scene by scene in a movie with turn up the backlight/contrast all on its own so makes the flash lighting more viewable...
and there is no way around it.....

----------------------

no matter how good LCD`s are as i cant fault the picture quality at all when viewing youtube 4k hdr stuff but i cant live with movies displaying this flashlighting effect.... once you notice its there its always in your head.. and dark scenes with say a fire in the background or lighting kicks off the flashing lighting....

--------------------------------------------------

anyway these issues are all inheritant of LCD technology, imho its crap
if there was still plasma`s being made in this day and age i would go for that every time......

anyway my next and only TV that will not have any of these issues is the 55" B6 OLD set with its current price dropping to nearly under 2k i think thats what im going to get now...
as no other set out there is going to compare to its pitch black / high contrast quality.

Thanks. There goes my theory that a smaller tv would not get banding!overall picture quality has been excellent on all the tvs. But what's the point if you can't watch anything as soon as the screen pans. Don't know how they can get away with it!

Mate when it comes to LCD`s your playing the lottery....
people that are determined return there sets up to 5 times to try to get the perfect one lol

All tv panels have this problem. The first batch of the LG 65E6V had banding problems.
The second never had but the 3rd did. It's luck of the draw.

No 55" is either a flagship or a " best ever" model

They dont use the best panels, and rarely anything like the best electronics so they can be put into a certain price bracket.

You do know LG OLED Tvs are completely riddled with panel problems also?
With the risk increases over 55inc and look at much they cost.

I haven't noticed any branding problems on my KS7000 yet but the grey movie bars and flash light is hard to get used to coming from a plasma. But the picture is outstanding,

I think am settled on keeping it until Full-array and Oled become cheaper and more mature.

I wouldn't say riddled with problems the 2016 models are pretty much perfect

Gah I just ran some more tests on my TV and it has a little bit of banding and DSE :D

Haven't noticed it on real world content only really noticeable on test screens and very light grey blue pastel colors

Riddled might have been the wrong choice of words.

Lots of reports of banding on LG E6 OLED models.

It's not banding as such more of a sharp edge that most people can't see, I have one on mine and it has faded with time, it used to do my head in but I don't see it any more

It is banding(as I said in my post) take a look on the avforum.

In the end I went with a Sony(2015) top end Full-array TV.

Yeah there was a problem with the March and April builds mate, every thing from then on is pretty much spot on. The new sony ZD9 has over 600 zones and was pretty much banding free but DSE on the other hand was horrendous

I did look at the KD-75ZD9. But I didn't think it was worth the extra £4000 over mine.
Wonder why Sony are not following the Ultra HD Premium in 2016?

The 1000 zones and 4000 nits only applied to the prototype shown at the 2016 show.
What it really has, no one knows, well unless someone strips one down :)

Avforums tested it and it was just over 600 zones and 1800 nits, Sony never follow things like that, they like to do there own thing and they won't pay for the DV chip, which in my opinion is HDR done right
