Nikon is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can easily make do with the Sony setup but it's right that have been said - there are some obvious omissions in their lens lineup.
On the topic of EVF, I actually quite like the A77 implementation and there are some good advantages over OVF so it's not an issue for me really.
What I do like is the 1dx/ d4 style high FPS that would be perfect for lower level (professionally ) sports / action photographers. Theres a guy who does cricket and football coverage of our local teams for the local paper who said more then once he would jump to an A77 in a second with a slightly better lens lineup.

The sony lens lineup isn't half bad and nor are the bodies themselves, with features like sensor stabilisation being very nice particularly in stabilising longer old lenses. The problem is that with such a small market share, the lenses are invariably more expensive as they are much more expensive to produce, and with third party lenses, though they are being produced, you end up spending 10%+ more on an a-mount Sigma lens than the Canikon Sigmas which can very quickly mean that in terms of costs, the a77 has to compete with the D700+ level cameras, and will mean that the a99 will have to compete with the D4/1DX cameras etc. which is a big factor for enthusiasts.

Thats not been entirely my experience. I have seen some places either not stock Sony or do charge more for the a-mount, but invariably, I've found UK stock at excellent online prices with no price difference. I've found their top end flash (58GN) to be cheap, as are some stand out Sony lenses that seem superb VFM.. It's all swings and roundabouts, for my setup, I've spent less on Sony then the previous Nikon/Canon (Top end flash, 17-50 f/2.8, 35 f/1.8, 18-250 first party stuff).

The A77 now it's been out a bit has as expected dropped to D7K/7D territory as it should, they are right at the end of their life, so prices reflect this..

But as for the topic, I do miss the old film SLRs, they just seemed to meter and focus so accurately, when I first went DSLR, my keeper rate dropped, it's only the last few years that I feel as confident with a DSLR as I did with an SLR!

Shooting with a TLR is just such a satisfying experience. The waist level viewfinder is just something to behold. It's gorgeous. You can frame and shoot and know every shot you're taking is a keeper.
