When did the last weekend in October stop being a bank holiday in the Uk? or was it ever a bank holiday weekend?

My calendar shows Oct 29th as HOLIDAY (Republic of Ireland).

Sadly not. There are umpteen in april/may (easter etc) then one at the end of August and then thats your lot until Xmas. Bloody stupid they aren't spread out more. Most of the EU gets more than we do too.

An Autumn bank holiday has been mooted by powers that be on and off for years, one of the possibilities that kept coming up in discussion was 21st October, otherwise known as Trafalgar Day. I imagine if that date was mooted again these days it would incur offense then counter offense so that everyone could be wholly and happily offended such is the current nature of the 21st Century.

My work is mostly based around Europe, and most of my customers (and the rest of my team) all shut down for the end of this week. It'll be a quiet Thursday / Friday
