Good on them trying to do the world some good, even if they are a little naive about it.

Wouldn't bother helping Africa though. If it doesn't want to help itself then why should we continue caring?

It's disgraceful things like this happen to people just simply trying to help though.

To me it's a symbol of American hypocracy. They do not look after their poor, they do not look after the poor in the world, but like their charity dinner events and the Peace Corps they make a big show of doing a a little to help.

However girls getting raped is just terrible. They're naive children thinking they're doing some good, trying to do some good and that will scar them for life.

I think it's pretty clear he was learning towards the fact that they should know better in such countries (not saying it's their fault before you rage at me as well). It's like that couple who were abducted by those Somalian pirates, they've been through a lot, but it's still very idiotic what they did. It's like ignorantly playing with fire and then not understanding why you got burnt. There's very little individuals can do in such places, and by trying to, they're often just putting themselves at risk.

This. Whilst I admire their efforts and determination to help countries, it really is just one huge risk I'd rather not have to put myself through. So yes, in a way it is their own fault for knowing such risks but going ahead with it anyway, but it's still horrible and I feel sorry for anyone it's happened to.

My girlfriend mentioned that when she's a doctor she would want to go parts of Africa for a while with groups to help people. I asked why on earth would you want to risk everything doing that? So many dangers and risks just to help a continent that doesn't try hard enough to help itself. Stuff that, I told her she'd be an idiot if she ever went.

Regardless of where they were no one deserves to be raped. Your original post implies you are saying its their fault for being naive and going to Africa.
That attitude is half the reason why women in England and probably other countries as well, don't report rapes because they fear people won't believe them and it will be implied that its their fault. I.e. they dressed in the wrong way or spoke to a man.

I don't think he's a troll, I think he is honestly that thick. Look at the quality of his previous posts - when I see a thread by the OP or cm1179 (or whatever) I know I'm in for a laugh at just how dense it's possible to be and still use a forum :D

TBH I don't feel much sympathy for these naive christian do-gooders who go to the third world and have bad things happen to them. What do you frickin expect to happen in Africa, THE RAPE CAPITAL OF EARTH?

"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes".

Firstly, Africa is a continent, not a capital.

Secondly, you're a complete tool.

Kwerk, the Peace Corps is a US Govt run agency, not a church one so Christianity has little or nothing to do with it.

Also, the rapes have happened worldwide, Bangladesh and Haiti were mentioned in the ABC report, there was also another report recently of a Peace Corps woman raped in Guyana, none of which are in Africa. The issue is that the Peace Corps kept this quiet, and like you, blamed some of the women involved, ignored pleas for reassignment and pushed aside the concerns of some of the women subsequently attacked and had also not told potential volunteers the innate risks in the countries they are serving in.

So aside from the obvious abhorrence of your idiotic insinuation that being raped and in some cases killed is the fault of the victim, you haven't even read the article properly.

I think in all fairness people who choose to help in poverty stricken countries and areas of unrest do so in the full knowledge of the risks, which makes me respect them all the more.
