Bought myself an 1992 MK6 Escort as a temporary car and plan to keep it till the tax runs out (october). The horn is shorting out and keeps coming on by itself, happened at 4am the other morning so i just disconnected it. Do i need to get it fixed or could i leave it?

MOT Failure - make sure its sorted by then, or place a cat under the bonnet with some string tied around its testicles with some string.

On MoT day, when the inspector wants to hear the horn.....tug away... :D

Of course with it being an MOT failure - if stopped, the fact you do have a valid MOT for the car (we assume) doesn't automatically mean you've got any kind of valid argument for it not working.

MOT certificate just means it was road legal on the day/hour it was tested.
It is your responsability to make sure the vehicle remains road legal.

True but he could just say it started malfunctioning ten minutes ago so he popped the fuse out so that he could drive it home to fix it and not upset other road users!!! :D

Well if you feel you can live without it then fair enough, but I think I would want it there, just in case...

Plus when the police do those checkpoint things and pull you over to check tyres, lights and the general condition of the vehicle, they have been known to check the horns on older cars.

I'd get it fixed asap if I were you. Its sods law that if you don't you will get into a situation where if you had a working horn an accident may have been avoided.
