I've recently noticed that my eyesight has degreded recently. i used to only need glasses for driving but now its getting to the point where I'm going to need them more often.

I've been looking at contact lenses and think thats the most convienent route.

Looking at Specsavers I noticed two types of monthly contact lenses: http://www.specsavers.co.uk/cgi-bin/strudwick.sh/s?langid=1&pfmt=1&siteid=39&pname=contact_lenses/lenstype_monthly.html

What the differece between the standard and premium lenses apart from the price?

Anyone got opinions of contact lenses? Good/bad experiences?

Thanks

Burnsy

Contact lenses are the best thing Ive ever done, I hated wearing my glasses and these have quite literally saved me :p

They are dead easy to use and easy to put in, I know that puts some people off :)

i thinks 1s disposable meaning you open one pair everymorning and after use you chuck in bin. and the other you get a pair everymonths and you have to look after it.

i have the disposable ones and i have no problems with them. i wouldnt go for the ones you have to look after. it really takes effort and it hurts more.(apparently)

I don't mind glasses, it just they're annoying to have to keep taking off and put on all the time.

What type do you wear? Dalies or monthlies? Did it take time for your eye to adjust etc?

Please educate this contact lens virgin :p

Top one is for wearing them for longer days without them drying out, i have been using acuvue advance now which are better than the specsaver ones, ask specsaver for a trial of acuvue advance, its free. I can wear these from 7am to 11pm until they start to get dry. best contacts ive ever had.

The acuvues are supposed t be replaced every 2 weeks.

I put mine in at about 8am in the morning, take them out at 10pm and bin them as they are dailies. I pay £22 a month and this includes aftercare and check ups :)

Dalies are better in my eyes as you have a new pair every day, but the quality of monthlys are of a much better grade.

Law:

"Tell him to get Laser (Wavefront) at Optical Express (not ultralase or optimax) - from £395 per eye."

Some people (like me :() cant wear monthlys, so to the OP, dont think you can pick and choose, you have to have what suits your eyes

i wear bi-weekly lenses, and opted for the most expensive ones that my opticians offer after trying a few others, and they are considerably better and still not that expensive either. Acuview Hydraclear Oasys. Specsavers don't sell them by the looks of it though, only the lesser "advance" ones, which are still good but just not as comfortable.

They work out @ £2.94 a week if you order them from asda's online site, and you just tell them your opticians phone number and they phone up and confirm all the details. I have absolutely no complaints, having worn them for up to 30 hours at a time sometimes even though my reccomended daily wearage is only 10-12 hours, they were still not noticeable :)

Ive been told that i have really dry eyes if that makes sense so i have been made to wear the acuvues :p

I need these!

I'm quite interested in getting contacts i've worn glasses since i was 10 and i don't wear them enough because they get in the way. Contacts i think would be much easier, where would you guys suggest would be the best place to go?

Acuview sound great but I don't want to have to pay a fortune. How much do they cost a month?

Burnsy

i just said, £2.94 a week :P so <£10 a month? £150 a year it costs me.

Tom.

I cant remeber the price i wasnt really listening to the optician because i was trying to get of the place as fast as pos but i think she said something like £11, dont know if thats a pair or a months worth.

You cant put a price on your eyes though, so get the best ones that suit your eyes as betty says.

Theres nothing wrong with Specsavers dailies Burnsy, Ive got no complaints, and I think £22 a month is quite reasonable :)

Double the price of the monthlies though, worth the difference? I think I'd prefer the monthlies anyway (a totally uneducated assumption)

To be honest, they all work out to be about the same price when you work it out, but regardless of whether you prefer the monthlies or not, like I said, your eyes might not be suited for them

I take it the only way I'm gonna find out if my eyes are suited is to try them right?
