I've got a 6800GT and the last time I installed drivers, they were the 77.77 ones from guru3d.com. The problem is that every time I try to upgrade the drivers to something more recent, it breaks. My process is:
1) Uninstall nvidia drivers from add/remove
2) Reboot
3) Run new driver package
At this point, most of the time it just blanks the screen and puts a curser at the top left. I can't do anything so have to reset the box and windows doesn't come up, it's just a blank screen. The only way to save it is to boot it into safe mode and then reinstall the 77.77 drivers which work perfectly.
I really really don't want to have to reinstall windows xp for the sake of slightly better IQ and framerates in games, the later drivers should just work. Any ideas why not?
