Hi All,

I'm looking to change from my HTC 7 Pro but I cant find any new phones that have a slide out QWERTY keyboard?

The Droid 4 looks perfect but it doesnt look like it will ever make it to the UK.

Am I stuck waiting for someone to fill the gap in the market or is there a phone I have overlooked?

- Not interested in camera
- Not interested in apps
- Not interested in screen for media

- Needs to make calls
- Needs to have slide out QWERTY keyboard for texting

I share your pain! Although my desire z is still doing everything I want it to, I've had it over 2 years and there is nothing I can think to replace it.

The only option seems to be to buy a phone from the states as there are a few sliders that support GSM. Samsung relay 4g, t-mobile touch 4g (htc really) and a couple of others that escape me.

Just get one imported, ok you pay more. But it's a niche market and surly worth the cost if its that important to you.
Plenty of delivery services like bundle box.

If you are only interested in calling and texting, why not keep your current phone?

I'll be due an upgrade soon but I've had a T-Mobile G1, followed by my current Desire Z.

I'm looking for another QWERTY, so it looks like importing might be the way forward.

I've not really had a look at the US QWERTY selection though, any that stand out?

Read a clip on the register about using pitzo electric (I think) material that expands when voltage is applied to make buttons appear on a touch screen, which could be used to simulate a keyboard, apply that weird blackberry clicky touch-screen tech to it and it would be absolutely awesome.

I actually looked into using the material for something similar a year ago, but it's bloomin expensive stuff.

Anyone taken the plunge on a Droid 4 or similar yet? My contract is up in May and the D4 looks like the only decent alternative to my Desire Z.
I looked at a Note or Note II to see if maybe the bigger screen made typing more pleasant, but no joy :( physical keyboard or nothing!

Think one of the upcoming BlackBerry devices will have a qwerty keyboard, don't believe it'll be slide out though... Might be worth waiting to see what they reveal in the coming week?

Only really interested in an Android phone. I've had BBs in the past but don't like the newer models one bit. I wouldn't mind if it was slide out or a permanent fixture like the Galaxy Pro etc, but there's nothing of either type around any more.

Well my desire z has been failing for a while, the ribbon cable from the keyboard to screen must be worn, the screen colours keep going all crazy and the display flickers.

I've been looking on and off for months for a replacment to this phone, nothing has been suitable, but finally i found one which does everything my old phone does but without the faults!

Yep, bought another desire z! :D
