Hey all wrote a topic yesterday about my first build and how there was no display to the monitor
and realized i needed a 6pin gpu power pci adapter got one and still nothing?
could it be the gpu is fried bought off ebay?
any other problems anyone could think of?

Yeah it's either the graphics card's not installed properly or you've done something else wrong.

Can you not just plug your monitor into your motherboard directly to rule out the graphics card?

There are also 2 wires that go from your PSU into your motherboard directly - check these. Having the large 12 pin one in will cause the PC to turn on and spin up etc, but wont produce a monitor signal. You need to plug in the other 4 pin socket into your motherboard.

Cant exactly recall how many pins those sockets have etc and was simply guessing, just make sure u have 2 wires into your MB from PSU.

its a big 20/24pin and either a 4 or 8 pin into the board. i'd guess at 4 for most boards. mine is 8 but i think thats on high end boards only.

That sounds about right ;)

I'll wager this is the cause of the problem!

(only cause the same damn thing had me close to tears for about 2 nights) haha.

yes my power supply is in
24 pin and 4 pin plugged in,
bought a new gpu today
8400, new from currys to make sure it wasnt my other 7950.
still no signal!
could be the ram as i bought 4gb off ebay and obviously i cant test that....... everyone i know owns laptops so i couldnt test...

at my wits end here!

ECC is error correction code memory. Used for servers iirc, where data in memory has to be accurate.

Desktop systems use non-ECC ram.

I had the same problem but it wasn't the ram for me :(
Any other reasons this could happen?
For me, the mobo previously been turned on with a 20 pin in a 24 pin socket and a burning plastic smell came from it.
Does that meen the mobo has been burnt out?

Thanks guys for all the input ,
i would have never of guessed to look at the ram but obviously ive made a mistake and will correct it over the weekend,
ill update once its fixed so if anyone else comes across this thread with a similar problem they maybe able to rectify

cheers
