No sound and other issues after bad Windows Update

The delete function does not seem to work but I think it is to do with the fact I am running Win7. After a registry clean there are only two broken codecs remaining (only two causing this issue?) Anyway, they are with System32 files and I am downloading and replacing them. I'll let you know how I get on.

Maybe not that simple! The file in question is system32/DShowRDPFilter.dll and system32/tm20dec.ax . How can I fix them, surely I can't just delete something in system32?

Personally id say that looking into codecs is a red herring.. codecs are loaded on demand when necessary and the problem would only occur then playing that particular codec. That should not affect windows system sounds.

To be fair, I think your right. I'm pretty sure two codecs couldn't cause all these problems.

Back to square one I think, windows is screwed and is going to have to wait until I have time to do a re-install.

Thanks everyone for your time!
