No sound from rear speakers in 5.1 setup

Using an X-Fi Prelude and Z-5500's.

I've got the system set to "6 channel direct". I set speaker setup to 5.1 in Windows control panel. The speakers themselves work because on max volume i can hear a faint sound coming from them.

However, whenever I use the test functions (or play a game) nothing comes out of the rear speakers.

Creative Audio Console? Set to 5.1 in there? How are you connecting them? Optical or the orange, green and black jacks?

The same happens with me... And I'm using the orange, green and black jacks.
