In the market for a new cooler as my h50 is struggling to keep my 2600k tamed at 4.5ghz, hits 77c or so load and im still getting some errors in prime at just under 1.3 volts so a new cooler is required.

Not really too sure about the Noctua, looks pretty large, heavy and would require me to take my motherboard out to install it. Whereas with the h70 it would just be a matter of taking the old rad and block out and attaching the new one. Ive a pair of silverstone 120mm air penetrators so noise isn't a concern for the h70.

depends on the case. i would go for a h50 if you have a smallish case

and the other if you have a big case, bare in mind the side panel fan if you have one location

The Noctua NH-D14 would be my choice, or if you wanted to save a bit of cash the Thermalright Silver Arrow or Cogage Arrow if you can source them. One thing to bare in mind with the D14 is you get two rather expensive fans included in the price, which if you didn't use you could sell on.

Some performance results vs the H70: http://www.kitguru.net/components/cooling/zardon/corsair-h70-review-versus-vantage-nh-d14-4-53ghz/4/

Noctua is tempting, just hate the thoughts of taking out my mobo.

Already have a h50.

H70 isn't even in the picture don't trust review sites that have it even remotely close.
D14 silver arrow or archon all the way, the corsair coolers are the same as £20-£30 air coolers they are about 8-10c behind the top 3 air coolers and thats with 2x high rpm fans even.

Frankly ignore user reviews, peoples "claims" can be rubbish. Just read 3-4 reviews on the H70 that features the D14 and you'll see that the extra risk isn't worth is as performance is not better. Sure it takes up more room, but I'd rather have the better performance.

Taking out the motherboard is a 30 minute job tops.

Prefer to go by user reviews, this guy claims to have his his 70 running pretty well.

With no evidence what so ever ? well check out vortez hardware there's a guy who reviews for them that posts here I can assure you the D14 and Silver arrow blow the corsair coolers out the window and do it quietly. In fact many report that the h50 is better than the h70 even.
Very good choice the D14.

Lol according to that list the D14 and Silver Arrow with no fans are only just slightly warmer than the H50 with it's noisy stock fan. Clear winner for Noctua and Thermalright I say.

If you're not looking at changing the stock fans of either the Noctua NH-D14 and the Thermalright Silver Arrow, it appears the former CPU cooler would be the better choice. All though, the difference between them is only a mere 0.20'C, so I think the most sensible thing to do would be to choose the one which is the cheapest at the time, or which ever one you like the look off, assuming that's your thing, of course. They're both certainly very impressive CPU coolers though. :)

Indeed, both are tremendous coolers. The main advantages of the Silver Arrow is its slightly quieter operation and lower price but you can't go wrong with either!

overclocking my 920 abit more than 4ghz prime95 getting 90c on temps with a h50 you think i should get the d14 instead? i also have a thermalright 120 ultra somewhere from wheni was overclocking a q6600
